Fountain contest tracking[edit]

Do we want to use Fountain to track contest entires? Wiki Asian Month has used this tool quite effectively in the past. Gamaliel (talk) 13:37, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion, Gamaliel. We had little difficulty in tracking the de-stubbing contest last November so I don't really foresee any problems this time. Let's see how it goes.--Ipigott (talk) 06:16, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A problem[edit]

I am from Bangladesh and I checked the redlinks related to that country. Looks like some of the names there are not even in Latin alphabet, and many are only half the name, or even less. Besides half the list is made up of Badminton players, while a country of 200 million people and two thousand years should have way many more women to feature, not just badminton players (Bangladesh doesn't even play badminton any good). What to do? Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:42, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The data is coming from Wikidata, and looks like some person/people have gone mad on there adding loads of badminton players who have competed at Bangladesh Badminton Championships. The non-Latin names is fixed- someone has added their Latin alphabet names to Wikidata, and I did a list update, so they're now listed by their Latin alphabet spellings. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:55, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed there are loads of badminton players in every country. Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by occupation/Badminton. Not many articles have been created from this data dump. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:17, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Aditya Kabir: Unfortunately we are reliant on Wikidata for this information. We can help fix the information that is there, and we can add new people to Wikidata so they will show up on these lists. If you are aware of any lists of famous Bangladeshi people I can try to add them to Wikidata. Gamaliel (talk) 13:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other problems[edit]

Another issue I noticed is that most of the North Korean footballers are duplicates in Wikidata. So I'm slowly going through them on Wikidata to merge the duplicates, and then I'll run the list updater. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:09, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

NK footballer issue fixed- about 25 duplicates on Wikidata fixed. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Joseph2302! WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:17, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be a wider issue with Wikidata duplicates for sports people. So if anyone is trying to start an article on sportspeople, I'd recommend checking that we don't already have an article. Because if there's 2 Wikidatas for the same person, one will be linked to the English Wiki article, but the other won't be, and so will show up in lists. When I spot them, I'm merging them in Wikidata, but don't want people to waste time creating duplicate articles here. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:10, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Do dual nationals count?[edit]

Hypothetical for now, but would dual nationals count if one of their nationalities is Asian but the other is not (for example Sky Brown who is Anglo-Japanese)? I guess the answer is yes, but thought it was easier to confirm the rules now rather than after the contest begins. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:47, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph2302: Yes, they would certainly count as would Asians who have emigrated to other countries, especially those who continue to support Asian culture and traditions whatever their current nationality.--Ipigott (talk) 06:22, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Priya Kumar (writer)[edit]

Hello all. I recently created Priya Kumar (writer), because the subject of the article was listed at [1]. It was reverted to Draft, because the page creation has been protected. Please see my talk page discussion. Can anyone review this Draft ? And if it is suitable for submission how can publish it?Imfarhad7 (talk) 21:50, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed for Regina Hing Yue Tsang[edit]

@Megalibrarygirl: I need your help for Regina Hing Yue Tsang. I have reliable references. Someone tagged it for speedy deletion. I submitted for WIR-178 anyways. SWP13 (talk) 09:14, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help the Asia Challenge?[edit]

Hello everyone! I thought as we have 3-months-contest dedicated to Asia we may help another Asian Challenge https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Asia/The_10,000_Challenge. All you need is just add a list of your articles to their list.

Thank you! Less Unless (talk) 20:00, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good idea Less Unless -- thanks for suggesting it! Alanna the Brave (talk) 13:01, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ipigott, Barnstars distributed WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:23, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • WomenArtistUpdates: Many thanks for your efficiency. Very nicely presented. I certainly agree that the full size barnstars are impressive but do you think it would be useful to send the three winners user boxes too, like those I sent out last time? If you wish, you could add a similar table of participants for October.--Ipigott (talk) 07:35, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ipigott Oh, yes! I think the user boxes should be given as well. Do you have the template to send to the three winners? WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:53, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • WomenArtistUpdates: Here's the one for the winner: "Template:Women in Red 2020 Asia contest: November winner". Do you need the ones for second and third place or can you create them yourself?--Ipigott (talk) 17:24, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks Ipigott! I learned something new today. Badges created and distributed.  Done I think the Continental Challenge is going very well! WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:27, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
