Greetings,

I've been working on and off on this article for some time now, trying to expand and improve it in the hope it can reach GA status someday, but I've come a bit unstuck with the Luton section of his career, as there seems to be a lack of sources for this period. I've looked in all the usual places (Google archive, Free library) with no luck. It may just be that there was nothing remarkable to write about Boycie during this spell, but is there anywhere you know of which may have some info I can use, or am I going to be relying on finding a Luton Town player records' book or similar?

Any help or advice you can give to improve the article of this true gent of a player would be greatly appreciated. J Mo 101 (talk) 00:14, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

I've never really got my head around the whole publisher/work thing, as they've always looked the same to me in the reference list. Thanks for the heads up though – something to clean up in the article at some point! J Mo 101 (talk) 23:04, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Wow, thanks a lot for clearing that up! It seems like a fairly widespread issue that people misuse these two parameters then. One more thing, does it make a difference whether I use "cite news" or "cite web" or online news sources? I assume either are fine, but wanted to clarify. J Mo 101 (talk) 10:14, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Well done on Israeli Championship redone

Hey Cliftonian, Well done on Israeli Championship redone, huge thank you from the original maker of the article, but one thing is that Hapoel Tel Aviv is recognised for having 13 championships acording to the IFA, HTA, and FIFA/UEFA stats, even tho those seasons might not have been finished, or an actual award was given at the time.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 10:06, 6 August 2011 (UTC)

The issue is like this.
Hapoel -
Here is three refs from the FA, HTA and Ynet, Hapoel Tel Aviv had been aproved by the IFA to have those unfinished league titles, while FIFA (also article about last title) don't recognise one, and state they have won 12, now some even say 11.
Maccabi -
IFA did not recognised Maccabi Tel Aviv 2 championships (Regional and Pre-formed PFA) which was first approved and later un-approved. while MTA claim they have won 19, IFA 18, and some sources have 20.
so ye, its funny that no one knows how many championships the Tel Aviv clubs won.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 10:29, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I think the footnotes is the best thing.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 10:44, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok cool, will do.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 10:48, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Very nice, well done, Maybe format the dates? from 00-00-00, to 1 August 1111, as an exemple. but overall, you did a wonderful job on the list.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 12:05, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
That will be awsome if you add me as a joint-nom, but I nominated a list this month Here, so not sure if its ok to be listed there twice per thier rules. (even tho its "joint")
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 12:14, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok cool, thank you.

Featured Article promotion

Congratulations!
I know I'm a little late to the party, but... Thanks for all the work you did in making Robin Friday a Featured Article! Your work is much appreciated.

In the spirit of celebration, you may wish to comment on another Featured article candidate... or perhaps review one of the Good Article nominees, as there is currently a backlog. Any help is appreciated! All the best, – Quadell (talk)

Thank you and well done

Just wanted to say thank you for the sorting suggestion and well done on your recent FA efforts about Eduard Streltsov and Robin Friday, they are tremendous. I hope to contribute some in the future, but right now it's hard to motivate myself to do anything significant on here. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 14:41, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

No problem. They're a fine example of what can be achieved on here and will stand me in good stead for the future. Tell me, what is it like being a non-league club? If we manage to survive then we'll probably be one next season regardless. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:04, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm sure that the standard between the two divisions now isn't that much different, but the mere thought of it happening makes me shiver. 40+ years as a second tier club, playing against big clubs in front of big crowds and next year we could be in the same league as Hayes & Yeading United, Forest Green Rovers, Ebbsfleet United, the list goes on. Being a league below clubs like Exeter City, Stevenage and Rochdale was humiliating enough. I live in hope that we will be saved and our team of kids and loanees will do enough to keep us up because there are some rubbish teams in League Two, but it's wearing pretty thin at the moment. I notice that Hayes & Yeading's most recent home game attracted 172 spectators. Good God almighty! Hurry up and get promoted, you shouldn't be there. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 15:34, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
I know how you feel because the –10 we received last season was what relegated us. I remember how appalled I was at how you were treated by the powers that be, and the goading you received by some "supporters" of other clubs, well we all that there is an element throughout the country that have absolutely no class or respect. I hope none of our lot behaved that way to you, but we have our fair share of idiots so it wouldn't surprise me. I think you'll get promoted this season so hopefully we'll be around to play you again. The teams that are below us at the moment are two that I expected to be down there and we play one of them on Saturday. I agree that you can't really determine how your season might turn out until November/December, but we really need something to go our way soon. If we can string a few results together then it would give everyone a lift. I've added a comment and it's the only thing that popped out to me. Another excellent list. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 17:46, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Likewise. It's a shame that big players for either side haven't played for both clubs. The fans of top clubs on here are spoilt for choice because they have all of these major cup finals to write about. We were denied twice by them. If you have an idea at some point as well then by all means give me a shout. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 19:28, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Haha, John Sitton, what a character. Yes, I have noticed that your FA's have been about unique individuals, and that dinner would be most welcome after we'd had a right sort-out in here. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 21:10, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

A more serious suggestion

I would be happy to help in any way I can. A player of his calibre deserves a top quality article. I saw him in an Argyle shirt a Trigger's Testimonial so I'll help where possible. User:Daemonic Kangaroo loves the Saints, so having him involved is a must. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 19:49, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

I'll happily help out when I can. If only his work-rate matched his skill, he would have been one of England's greatest players. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:23, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Featured List promotion

Congratulations!
Thanks for all the work you did in making List of Israeli football champions a Featured List.

Hello

Hi there, do you remember me? We used to work together on the Berbatov and Streltsov articles. I was wondering if you could help me out on some other football articles? Cheers. – Arbero (talk) 18:21, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Sure thing, which ones did you have in mind? —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:22, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Arjen Robben? There is an expand tag in the Real Madrid section, and this is an GA article, I'm assuming it needs more work? The other article is Tijani Babangida, there are two dead links, and I have tried Internet Archive, but I only get an error, and I can't seem to find any replacements for them despite googling. – Arbero (talk) 18:32, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
The Real Madrid section needs more work on Robben, definitely. At a glance I would work in how many appearances and goals he made in each season at Madrid, and also find something specific about each season. As it is it jumps straight from 2007 to 2009 in the prose. Put something in the middle; it shouldn't be too difficult.
For Babangida, here are two links for you:
Hope this helps. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:40, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, these are perfect. How exactly did you find them? I have been trying to google them, but got nowhere. – Arbero (talk) 18:43, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Anytime, glad to help. :) I just put in Google "Tigani Babangida" (in quotation marks) and for the first one added "malaria" to the search and it was on the third page I think. On the other one I put "Tigani Babangida" (in quotation marks) and "return to Ajax". —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:47, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
I understand. ;) About the AllAfrica.com article, it requires registration, is this the only source you could find? I think it would be better if you could find a reference with full article, but if you are satisfied with this one, then why not? – Arbero (talk) 18:52, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
I can't find anything else, and I would be inclined to say something is better than nothing. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 19:01, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
It's alright. ;) By the way, have you started working on the Robben article? I forgot to mention another article I had on my mind, Mido. Could you help me find information during his time at Gent? – Arbero (talk) 19:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Sure thing re: Mido at Gent. I haven't started on Robben yet, no, but I will do some work on both tomorrow afternoon/evening if I have some time spare... I am tired now, eish... —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 19:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, are you going to get some sleep? – Arbero (talk) 19:22, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Ja, I'll message you tomorrow in the mid-afternoon when I'm doing some stuff on Robben at Real Madrid, I'll flesh it out a bit and then we can move on to Mido. For now I'm going to sleep. Chat tomorrow! :) —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 19:24, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Sure, I'll see if I have some time tomorrow as well. Might actually go outside, so I don't know if I will be here. But you can message me so I can see how it's going. Have a good sleep! :) – Arbero (talk) 19:29, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Did some work on Robben. What do you think? —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 12:26, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Not bad, does it need more expanding or is it enough? – Arbero (talk) 16:40, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
I think it looks okay, but feel free to add more if you like. It can't hurt. It doesn't have gaps in it anymore, which is the important thing. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 16:41, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Sure, I'll think of something. When are you planning on working on the Mido article? By the way, there is a dead link on this article, do you think you can find a working link? Thanks. – Arbero (talk) 16:57, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Maybe tomorrow, I am otherwise disposed this evening. But I have given a good link for the Kinkladze dead link, have a look for yourself: the Irish Independent of Dublin. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Hey, thanks. Can I ask you something, are you on holiday or just busy? – Arbero (talk) 18:31, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
I'm not on holiday, I'm just a bit busy at the moment hey... I'll dig up some stuff about Mido at Gent and I'll write it in tomorrow, don't worry. :) —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:37, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Alright then :), is afternoon the best time to reach you? – Arbero (talk) 18:39, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
You're one hour behind me here in sunny Israel, so afternoon/evening are probably the best times. I am usually here in the evening. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:41, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
You are right on that, but can I reach you on the mornings as well or is it just afternoon/evening? – Arbero (talk) 18:47, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Leave a message whenever and I will see it within a few hours, maximum, and reply right away. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 06:00, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for being a bit late, but are you online now? – Arbero (talk) 12:47, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm here. I did some work on Mido at Gent, what do you think? —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 13:52, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Not bad, but are the quotes referenced? Also, it would be wise to find which club he made his league debut against. – Arbero (talk) 14:09, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
The quotes are referenced at the end of the paragraph, but I can't find who he made his debut against... maybe we will need a Belgian source for this. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 14:22, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
I corrected some grammar, and also added first league goal and European debut. Any good? – Arbero (talk) 16:37, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Looks very good, well done! The article overall looks much better now for this little addition we have made. Good work! —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 19:49, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, but can you tell what "vehement insistence" means? It sounds a bit unusual, maybe there is an easier word for this? – Arbero (talk) 20:20, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
"Vehement" means very strong and repeated. "Insistence" means sticking to his point. Basically it means his father very strongly believed he should stay, repeatedly told him so and would not change his mind. But using only two words to say all of that. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 20:29, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh ok, do you know if I can change it to "strongly believed" then? I think it sounds more suitable, but the choice is yours. – Arbero (talk) 21:17, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, well, "strongly believed" means something else. His father "insisted" – actually stopped him from coming home – and did so very strongly ("vehemently"). He didn't give Mido a choice, which the wording "strongly believed" would imply. I think "vehement insistence" works well in this context and gets the message over well, as a native English speaker. I mean no disrespect to you, but perhaps it is merely your unfamiliarity with the words (you had to ask me what they meant) that makes you hesitant about using them? I think to most English speakers it would be understandable as it is. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 21:30, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I don't think I have ever heard those words mentioned before in an football article. But I'm learning. By the way, you are up pretty late today? Are you going to bed soon? – Arbero (talk) 22:48, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
I managed to find Mido's league debut for Gent. – Arbero (talk) 15:55, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Good work. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:16, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Is there something I can help you with? – Arbero (talk) 19:40, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Not right now, but I'll let you know if there is in the future :) Talk later boet —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 06:12, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, alright then. Well, I found some other articles that had dead links and some needs to be referenced, will you continue to help me or are you busy with something else? – Arbero (talk) 18:57, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Put a list here, I'll have a look at it later on, I have to run out in a minute. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 06:16, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Sure, here are some of the Good articles I was thinking of:
Done Micky Adams – Dead link
Done Jason Dozzell – Dead links
Not done Shaun Goater – International goals
Not done Ritchie Humphreys – Dead link (1 remaining)
Done Patrick Kisnorbo – Citations needed
Done James Milner – Citations needed (removed)
Just wondering if you had a look on the list yet above. Tell me when you have got some spare of time. – Arbero (talk) 15:53, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I will do some work on these tomorrow, I promise. I am sorry for keeping you waiting. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:09, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
No problem, I understand since you were busy with some other articles. – Arbero (talk) 17:13, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
=) Good stuff. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:14, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for being late, but will you help me with these articles tomorrow? – Arbero (talk) 19:34, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
I was actually just about to do them. Give me a few minutes and I will post here again when I am done. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 19:42, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
I did Adams and Dozzell and added a citation for Goater. Will do more tomorrow. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 20:08, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
About the Dozzell article, User:Jimbo online reverted your edits because he wanted you to find new sources. – Arbero (talk) 11:55, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Okay then. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 13:20, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
I fixed two of the three citation issues for Milner. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 13:35, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Is the third one difficult to find? Also, about the Dozzell article, can you help me find some replacements for the dead links? I made a search at East Anglian Daily Times, but couldn't find any articles dating back to 2001. And SGR-FM doesn't exist anymore, it is now known as Heart Ipswich, so that one will be quite tough to find. I have tried archiving both of the links at Webarchive, but with no success whatsoever. – Arbero (talk) 15:56, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
The third one I could not find. I have found one new link for the Dozzell article but I am still having trouble for the other one. I will keep on working on it. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:14, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
OK then, well I checked through the page history, and there was actually a reference (scroll down) from Aston Villa's official website, but it's dead. I'm going to see if I can find that article. Also, about Boston Spa School, here is another article I found about his time there, do you think I should add it? – Arbero (talk) 18:02, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
Can't hurt. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 18:05, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
About Humphreys and Kisnorbo, will do you them today or tomorrow? – Arbero (talk) 16:55, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
I honestly can't find anything on Humphreys' broken foot back in 2001. I think it will take somebody with a local newspaper from back then to confirm it, either that or a reference in a future interview. Kisnorbo is fixed with two links from a local newspaper, the Bradford & District Advertiser. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:03, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
That's disappointing to hear. Well, can you help me out with Goater? I have found 15 of his goals and need to find his caps and the rest of the goals. – Arbero (talk) 18:42, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Have you decided yet? – Arbero (talk) 12:11, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I'll have a look now. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 13:43, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Not having much luck hey... will keep on looking, but I'm making no promises on this one. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 15:33, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
His caps and goals were taken from Transfermarkt. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/shaun-goater/profil/spieler_3353.html I have heard it isn't a very reliable site sometimes. If possible, a book with his International caps and goals would be good, but it seems unlikely, considering the lack of coverage around Bermudian football. Let me know if you find something. – Arbero (talk) 15:53, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I will. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 15:57, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, message me if you find one. – Arbero (talk) 19:41, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I just managed to find that one dead link for the Dozzell article. Take a look. :) – Arbero (talk) 19:54, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Great job! :) I will have a look at the others now... —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 22:09, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I can't find anything on Heskey's praise of Milner and the others, on Humphreys' foot injury in 2001 or on Goater's goals. Sorry man. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 22:34, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I understand, well, cheers for helping out with the other articles. :) I will delete Heskey's statement if you don't mind? – Arbero (talk) 09:02, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
I think that would be best. You're more than welcome! Feel free to write again. :) —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 09:49, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Maybe another FL, Israel State Cup

Hi mate, I was wondering if you would like the idea that we take the Israel State Cup, and maybe do a seperete article for the winners listing (ie: List of Israel State Cup winners). I added all info and tables way back since 2009 to the main article, and wondered if you would be able to help me do so.

Sounds good, I'll have a little look at it later on today. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 06:00, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, I will have a look at doing this either this evening or tomorrow. I have been kind of busy. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 17:11, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
No worries mate, when ever you got the time.
  – HonorTheKing (talk) 03:29, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I finally got around to this. Sorry for taking so long! I have started work on it as you can see and will continue polishing it up either today or tomorrow. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 00:21, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Rhodesian flags

Do you have the book "Flags and Symbols of Rhodesia, 1890–1980"? Please note that you are not the copyright owner of that flags, please use commons:Template:PD-Zimbabwe on Commons.--Antemister (talk) 22:37, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

I do not have the book. I borrowed a copy from a library in England and no longer have it. I have altered the page of the flag I uploaded as you have requested. —Cliftonianthe orangey bit 22:44, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
