June 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm JalenFolf. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to West Ranch High School have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. The link you used to source your addition has been determined to be a spam link. Please do not add this link again. Thank you. Jalen Folf (talk) 18:57, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jalen, I did not add any external links to the West Ranch High School page. I only corrected misinformation that someone else had added. I did add historical information about the founding of the school as I was the principal that founded the school. Please restore the latest copy of the page that I uploaded. Principaltill2014 is not spam, it is the login I created just for Wikipedia. Thank you, Robert Vincent Principaltill2014 (talk) 19:44, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to West Ranch High School. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Rusalkii (talk) 21:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Rusalkii, I did not add promotional material, soapboxing, advertising or promotion to the West Ranch High School page. I am the Founding Principal and I only corrected misinformation and added some text about the history of the school. Any material added about the robotics team "The school houses Team 691, a FIRST Robotics Competition team." was added by others, not me. Thank you Principaltill2014 (talk) 22:46, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am new to Wikipedia. How do I talk to jpgordan? I would like to apologize to him. He wrote to me, "Your very first edit was entirely promotional, and inappropriate for Wikipedia. Where was this mission statement taken from? --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 05:44, 30 June 2023 (UTC)" Unfortunately, I could not reply to him by using the [reply] link, as I could not get it to work. I was the Founding Principal at West Ranch High School when it opened in 2004 and I, along with our first department chairpersons wrote our mission statement of Relationships, Rigor, and Relevance. I am sorry for any disruption I may have caused. My original goal was to correct the misstatement of the origin of the school mascot. It was not taken from the film, High School Musical. I guess I got carried away in also posting the mission statement for the school. Could I please be permitted to correct the mascot information and not include the mission statement. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience. I guess you could chalk it up to me being 70 years old and not really understanding the technology. Principaltill2014 (talk) 06:19, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have done none of the things on the West Ranch High School Wikipedia site that I have been accused of. As the retired, founding principal of the school, I simply wanted to correct misinformation that was posted on the West Ranch High School page. I did not add any links of any kind, or site any other sources. I did not add promotional material, advertising, promotional material, self-promoting, or soapboxing. All I did was add information on the history of the school that I built. I apologize for any confusion that may have been caused by my reloading the corrected information to the page several times after the Wikipedia staff had taken it down and reposted the site with the original misinformation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Robert Vincent Principaltill2014 (talk) 04:35, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am 70 years old and new to Wikipedia. I would like to apologize and appeal the block that has been placed on my account. Accept reason:

You are now free to post on any page except West Ranch High School. You can make edit requests on Talk:West Ranch High School. PhilKnight (talk) 14:04, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PhilKnight - would you be amendable to an unblock, but leaving a partial block in place to prevent them editing the affected article directly while still able to make suggestions on talk? Girth Summit (blether) 13:47, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. I have modified the block. PhilKnight (talk) 14:04, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks PhilKnight. Principaltill2014 - your connection with the school gives you what we call a conflict of interest - this is covered by the guidance at WP:COI. We generally discourage volunteer editors from writing about subjects that they have a personal connection with, because it is very difficult to do so in an impartial manner. Remember that we are writing encyclopedia articles here, not profiles or brochures. We only want content that is neutrally phrased, factual, and verifiable by citations to reliable sources of information - ideally, those sources should be independent of the subject, and secondary. If you want to make changes to our article about the school, you will need to propose them on the article's talk page. You may use edit requests to do this. Please don't request any changes based on your own personal knowledge or experience though - we can't verify that - find sources to support it, and reference those in your request. Best wishes Girth Summit (blether) 14:16, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Girth,
Thank you so much for the explanation on why I was blocked from editing the West Ranch High School page. It makes perfect sense. I apologize for the problems I have caused.
Thank you again,
