Question from Mongrelmusings (00:55, 2 April 2024)

Hello Juxlos! Apparently you're my assigned mentor, so I hope it's okay to ask you for help. Earlier on today, I realised that the interlanguage links for sebastes norvegicus (English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastes_norvegicus) were incomplete. Speaking German, I knew there was a German Wikipedia page about the same fish (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotbarsch) but it wasn't appearing in the interlanguage link.

Accordingly, I decided to add an interlanguage link (my first time! still quite a newbie), and so I was sent to the corresponding Wikidata page (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14718979).

However, I was then unable to add the German page to the Wikidata's Wikipedia interlanguage links. Reason? Because apparently someone had erroneously created a second / separate Wikidata list for the exact same topic (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1753710) and had added the German page to this list. And it seems like you can only add each Wikipedia page to one single Wikidata list / interlanguage list. So I couldn't add the German one to this page.

Having reviewed both the Wikidata pages, I concluded to merge them so that e.g. German Wikipedia pages would be able to find the corresponding English page easier (and vice versa). I decided to move everything to "Q14718979" because it was already linked to the English page and also because "Q1753710" seemed to contain a few obvious basic errors (e.g. the interlanguage link list included a link to the Cebuano page for "Sebastes viviparus" – this is a separate fish from sebastes norvegicus and therefore didn't belong in that list at all – I've since removed it from that list, and assigned it to the correct Wikidata list Q1583538).

I have now completed that transfer – there are now 29 interlanguage links for sebastes norvegicus united under one roof at Q14718979 (i.e https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q14718979)!

My question to you is: what do I now do with Wikidata page Q1753710? --Mongrelmusings (talk) 00:55, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

My first instinct was to create a redirect link from Q1753710 to Q14718979, but I could only find one help page about it, and it didn't really answer how I do that (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Redirects).
I was also wondering if I should/can add a comment/explanation anywhere on Q1753710 to explain what I've just done? I wouldn't want anyone to think I've been vandalising. This is my first time editing a Wikidata page – I was surprised that there's no edit summary prompt or talk page (or maybe I just overlooked it?).
Thanks in advance for your help! M Mongrelmusings (talk) 00:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
I would personally not think too much about it - Wikidata is mostly there for large scale data interface anyway.
Also, I'm not very familiar personally with Wikidata conventions 😅 Juxlos (talk) 01:21, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Ha, okay! Thank you. I shall just leave it as it is then. Best, M Mongrelmusings (talk) 08:31, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Manish-Ghorpade on ABU Robocon (17:15, 10 April 2024)

Hello Juxlos , I have stumbled on how to add images to a table on a wiki site , are they supposed to be added to Wikimedia first or directly uploading them is also possible. --Manish-Ghorpade (talk) 17:15, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

All images need to be added to Wikimedia Commons or to Wikipedia if it is a fair use image. You should not add images you found online, though, unless they are explicitly tagged as public domain or similar.
Images you make entirely yourself are fine, so long as they do not incorporate copyrighted things. What exactly do you intend to add? I would assume a logo or a photo from the article. Juxlos (talk) 04:08, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Indyhog on Union Christian Academy (01:22, 12 April 2024)

I added Shay Mooney as notable alumni and also trying to add Jeremy Gardner an OF at University of Central Arkansas and record holder for longest hitting streak in the Gulf Coast Conference in baseball. Citation below

How to flag biased pages with admins?

Hello Juxlos,

It's me again! Thanks again for your help last time.

I have another question for you, as my mentor: there's a German Wikipedia page about a suggested policy from the German far-right AFD. The page itself isn't a problem, but its lack of neutrality is. Who do I go to to flag this? And how do I flag it? Mongrelmusings (talk) 16:16, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

You can try the Talk page - but I'm not sure how active German Wikipedia is. There's the "neutrality disputed" tag there, too. Juxlos (talk) 04:09, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I'll check those out! Mongrelmusings (talk) 11:31, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
