Question from DylangelStar (05:56, 10 July 2023)
Como mantener seguro mi servidor --DylangelStar (talk) 05:56, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Marriage (Wy album)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Marriage (Wy album) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article does not exist or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 06:41, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Justiyaya. Wy (band) or similar doesn't appear to have ever been created on en.wp; looking elsewhere, sv:Wy (musikgrupp) doesn't currently exist, though I can't see any deleted revisions over there. Also tried a Wikidata search, but nothing matches there either. Please do let my know if I have overlooked something. --Shirt58 (talk) 🦘 09:47, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there @Alexandermcnabb and @Shirt58, I've found the subject originally while patrolling AFC at Draft:Wy (band), where I thought that more of the coverage was focused on the album above rather than the band, but a borderline case regardless.
- An album can be notable without its creators being notable, and I found that the small amount of coverage surrounded the specific album over the band or its other works. I believe that the subject is probably notable under GNG with the three sources in the article and strengthened by one that I didn't include. (Source assessment table below) Justiyaya 18:09, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
Source assessment table:
| ||||
Source | Independent? | Reliable? | Significant coverage? | Count source toward GNG? |

NBHAP | ~ WP:Interview | WP:ALBUM/SOURCE | ~ Partial
NBHAP List (not in article) | WP:ALBUM/SOURCE | despite being a list of albums, contains around 500 words of stuff surrounding the album | ✔ Yes
Atwood | does not appear paid or have any connection with the subject | ? Not previously discussed, seemed to be reliable upon first glance | ? Unknown

Growth team newsletter #27
Welcome to the twenty-seventh newsletter from the Growth team! Help with translations
Annual plan for Growth
We shared our annual plan, for the period July 2023 - June 2024.
Our first project of the year will be Community configuration 2.0, which helps editors with extended rights transparently and easily configure important on-wiki functionality.
After we finish work on Community configuration 2.0, we will hope to fit in one of the following projects:
- Article creation: This project aims to provide new editors with better guidance and guardrails in the article creation process, with the intention of lightening the load of new page reviewers.
- Non-editing participation: This project aims to create low-risk ways for readers to participate in Wikipedia with the intention of funneling more readers into contributing to the Wikimedia movement.
Please let us know what you think about these projects on the related talk page, or Growth's annual plan talk page.
Suggested edits
We released a new Section-level “add an image” structured task to Growth pilot wikis (Arabic, Bengali, Czech, and Spanish). This task was part of the Structured Data Across Wikipedia project. We are monitoring the edits made, and we look for community feedback as well.
Suggested Edits are now receiving topic predictions via the new Language-Agnostic Topic Classification. This change affects non-English Wikipedia wikis. It will ensure newcomers receive a greater diversity of task recommendations. Before, as this feature was a test, English Wikipedia was used to select topics. The change is gradual as lists of topics are refreshed when they become empty. The Research team will evaluate the impact in a few months. [1]
Starting on August 1, a new set of Wikipedias will get "Add a link": Georgian Wikipedia, Kara-Kalpak Wikipedia, Kabyle Wikipedia, Kabardian Wikipedia, Kabiyè Wikipedia, Kikuyu Wikipedia, Kazakh Wikipedia, Khmer Wikipedia, Kannada Wikipedia, Kashmiri Wikipedia, Colognian Wikipedia, Kurdish Wikipedia, Cornish Wikipedia, Cornish Wikipedia.
Mentorship
The Growth team provides dedicated features to establish a mentorship program for newcomers. Every newcomer gets a volunteer mentor who provides encouragement and answers questions. Communities can set up or join this mentorship system by visiting Special:ManageMentors. This mentorship system is configurable by the community at Special:EditGrowthConfig.
More communities have implemented mentorship. A Wikimedia Foundation data scientist will be looking at the impact of Mentorship. We will look at the impact on Spanish and English Wikipedia. [2]
The Growth team will also host a Mentoring new editors on Wikipedia session at Wikimania 2023 in Singapore. Workshop attendees will help brainstorm improvements to Growth’s mentorship features.
Positive reinforcement
We will share more complete experiment analysis for all the three parts of the Positive reinforcement project soon. At the moment, the new Impact module, Leveling up, and Personalized praise are still being A/B tested on the Growth team's pilot wikis.
In the meantime, initial leading indicators for the Personalized praise project have been published. Although this is still a relatively small sample, results seem healthy. They show that Mentors are indeed receiving notifications and clicking through to view their praise-worthy mentees.
Growth contributes to IP Editing migration
The Growth team is currently focusing on IP Editing: Privacy Enhancement and Abuse Mitigation. It is a project that touches many different Wikimedia Foundation teams. The Growth team will focus on temporary accounts through two main points:
- the user experience of a logged-out user, that switches to a temporary account,
- change Growth-owned extensions and features, so that they work as expected with temporary accounts. [3]
Community Configuration 2.0
We are still in the early planning stage of the Community Configuration 2.0 project:
- We are gathering internal Wikimedia Foundation teams' needs, so as community feedback. [4]
- We have started to investigate design improvements. [5]
- We are also reviewing similar tools that are part of other products. [6]

Administrators' newsletter – August 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2023).
Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

Question from Mufunwa Lillian Ramadwa (15:57, 16 August 2023)
Hello, when will I be able to write my own article --Mufunwa Lillian Ramadwa (talk) 15:57, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Mufunwa Lillian Ramadwa: You will have the ability to create pages once your account is WP:EXTENDEDCONFIRMED, meaning it has existed for at least 30 days and has made at least 500 edits.
- Until then you can submit draft articles for creation by using the Article wizard. This is the highly recommended route for new users so that you can receive feedback from experienced editors and have less risk of deletion. ––FormalDude (talk) 16:03, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

I want to publish my brand I'm unable to publish help me --Artistic Impression (talk) 07:17, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there User:Artistic Impression, Wikipedia is not a platform for self promotion, your brand is most likely not notable and therefore not suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia as an article. Apologies. Also your username is likely a violation of Wikipedia's username policies as it implies shared use and is promotional as your brand shares the same name. New page reviewer granted
Hi Justiyaya. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 19:55, 17 September 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Justiyaya,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Help:Introduction to Wikipedia is a good place to start if you think there's too much stuff there. Writing an article is one of the hardest things to do as a beginner, the issue I think your draft had is that is swayed way towards a promotional tone and style, Wikipedia is supposed to written in a neutral tone without bias. If you still would like to contribute, send something here and I'll write something more complete up once I get home :D apologies again for misinterpreting your message and intent Justiyaya 13:04, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from Robin de Gruchy (13:06, 12 October 2023)
Hello, I saw that Wikipedia`s biographical article concerning the French 18th century philosopher, Pierre Cabanis, had no mention of his wife. She was Charlotte de Grouchy, the sister of Sophie de Grouchy, wife of Cabanis`s friend Condorcet, for both of whom you have a biography. Their brother was the Napoleonic marshal, Emmanuel de Grouchy. I wanted to add this information and add links to link each individual. Advice is sought, for how this is done, With thanks
Robin de Gruchy I wish to --Robin de Gruchy (talk) 13:06, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Robin de Gruchy, that's great! Would you have a reliable source to support that claim? Based on your username, you might have a slight conflict of interest with the subject, skimming through WP:COI would be nice, don't edit the page directly, instead please propose the change on the talk page with a reliable source added supporting your claims. Justiyaya 13:14, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, that is what I needed to know, and the nature of a reliable source. Would the following be accepted? www.ancestry.co.uk/Paris, France, Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1555-1929: "Decedee, 7e Fevrier 1880, Annette Pamela Cabanis, fille de Pierre Jean Georges Cabanis et de Charlotte Felicite de Grouchy, son epouse"
- I cannot find the marriage register entry, itself, online.
- I own a manuscript Histoire de la Famille de Grouchy, (1890s, unpublished) in which this features in some detail. It would, however, be a conflict of interest 82.112.149.236 (talk) 14:10, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hiya Robin de Gruchy, there was discussion on this basically stating that any secondary source would be preferred over it. You could try to propose the change on the talk page of the article with the template
{{Edit COI}}
(I'm guessing that you have a conflict of interest), it would be best not the edit the page directly. Justiyaya 13:07, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello How Can I Put A Image Just Asking. --DeLeonOfficial (talk) 03:09, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @DeLeonOfficial, try commons:Special:UploadWizard. Quick note on your userpage, Wikipedia isn't the place for new ideas or original research, all information here needs to be verifiable. Justiyaya 03:33, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello I Have A Important Question How Can I Public A New Article On Mobile? --DeLeonOfficial (talk) 03:34, 15 October 2023 (UTC)
- Try reading through WP:1st, making a new article is really difficult, you should try doing some other tasks first. Justiyaya 03:36, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Meowlord (07:09, 16 October 2023)
When should parentheses be used on Wikipedia? I see very liberal use of them on many of the copy edit suggestion articles. Seems a bit informal imo, but yeah just wondering what the standard is. --Meowlord (talk) 07:09, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Meowlord! Welcome to Wikipedia! MOS:PARENTHESES should provide good guidance on this. Looked through some of your edits and found them to be well done, keep it up and feel free to post additional questions below! Justiyaya 13:32, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Growth team newsletter #28
Welcome to the twenty-eighth newsletter from the Growth team! Help with translations
Community configuration 2.0
- Community Configuration 2.0 is a feature that will enable Wikimedia communities to easily customize and configure features to meet their unique needs. This approach provides non-technical moderators with more independence and control over enabling/disabling and customizing features for their communities.
- Technical approach and associated tasks are detailed in this Epic task on Phabricator.
- Initial designs are drafted for two different approaches (see images). We will soon demo interactive prototypes to interested admins, stewards, and experienced editors (T346109). Please let us know if you have feedback on the design approach, or want to participate in prototype testing.
IP Masking
- The Growth team has been working on several updates to ensure Growth maintained features will be compatible with future IP Masking changes. This work has included code changes to: Recent Changes (T343322), Echo notifications (T333531), the Thanks extension (T345679) and Mentorship (T341390).
- Before December, the Growth team will initiate community discussions with the goal of migrating communities from Flow to DiscussionTools. This move aims to minimize the necessity for additional engineering work to make Flow compatible with IP Masking. (T346108)
Mentorship
- We assembled some resources for mentors at Mediawiki wiki. This resource page is translatable and will be linked from the mentor dashboard.
- We are working to resolve a bug related to mentors properly returning after being marked as "Away". (T347024)
- Half of newcomers at English Wikipedia get a mentor assigned to them. To ensure every newcomer receives mentorship, we need additional volunteer mentors at English Wikipedia to achieve a 100% coverage rate. We also encourage experienced users from other wikis to help newcomers at their own community.
Scaling Growth features
- We continue the deployment of the structured task "add a link" to all Wikipedias. We plan to scale the task to all Wikipedias that have link suggestions available by the end of 2023.
- We plan to scale the new Impact Module to all Wikipedias soon, but first we are investigating a bug with the job that refreshes the Impact Module data. (T344428)
- At some wikis, newcomers have access to the "add an image" structured task. This task suggests images that may be relevant to add to unillustrated articles. Newcomers at these wikis can now add images to unillustrated articles sections. (T345940) The wikis that have this task are listed under "Images recommendations" at the Growth team deployment table.
Other news
- We disabled the “add an image” task temporarily (T345188) because there was a failure in the image suggestions pipeline (T345141). This is now fixed.
- You can read a report about the Growth team’s representation at Wikimania in Singapore here. Growth team members presented two sessions at Wikimania Singapore.
- After a 2.5 years-long collaboration with Bangala Wikipedia, we have decided to start a collaboration with another wiki. Swahili Wikipedia is now a pilot wiki for Growth experiments.

Question from SOUTHGATE 88 (12:49, 24 October 2023)
just want to get started - how do I create an article aand how do I add images --SOUTHGATE 88 (talk) 12:49, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @SOUTHGATE 88, I would usually discourage newer editors from making articles without much experience in other areas, consider trying other tasks until you've gained some experience. Writing new articles is one of the more difficult tasks here, so its best to wait a bit before starting.
- If you are set on creating a new article, WP:1st is the way to go, worry about images later, you can always post another question here. Justiyaya 12:52, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Doetom547 (06:50, 28 October 2023)
Hi Can I put my own story on Wikipedia --Doetom547 (talk) 06:50, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Doetom547, no, not really, original research is not allowed, and Wikipedia is not a web host, perhaps fandom? Justiyaya 06:57, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
Journal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering moved to draftspace
Hi, Justiyaya. Thanks for your interest in improving WP:EN. I have corrected some errors the page initially had, added a section with the Indexing Services that include JAABE and included the journal impact factor as declared in its webpage. Additionally I have found that articles about academic journals are usually as this simple, as you can see at International Journal of Sociology or The Journal of Architecture e.g. Do you think the article is now ready to be published? Thank you. Pompilos (talk) 14:43, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hiya @Pompilos, honestly I'm not quite sure about notability relating to academic journals. I've draftified only because it is completely unreferenced for like an hour, I should've probably let it sit in the queue for longer if you had still been improving it. Submit it through AFC if you are not sure, or move it back into mainspace directly :D Justiyaya 01:33, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from Dakiwi (11:47, 29 October 2023)
Hi Justiyaya! Thx for being my Wikipedia mentor! It is my first time... and unfortunately I am not a techiee, cannot code. Trying to embed a wikipedialink to a name.. Added the bars around the name Leif Johansen, like this
Scott Gorham and Leif Johansen, except where noted
and the name now turns up blue in the article https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Salute_%2821_Guns_album%29§ion=2&oldid=1164228128&action=edit, but there are several articles on this name and I cant see where to embed the link.... --Dakiwi (talk) 11:47, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Edit/ I realize now that it links to the wrong article, the one Im gong for is perhaps only available in Norwegian, it seems. This one https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leif_Johansen_(musiker) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dakiwi (talk • contribs) 11:50, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Dakiwi What specific page are you referring to, what page are you trying to link to?
- Wikilinks are done usually with
[[page link goes to]]
or[[page link goes to|text link is displayed as]]
- If an article is only available in Norwegian, you can still link to it! Something like
{{ill|Article title|language code}}
would work. Feel free to message back if you have any more questions :D Justiyaya 12:56, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

Creation of The Nest (American TV network) article
You stated that the citation 2 does not back up the edit. It clearly shows that Sinclair sold the Stadium sports channel to Jerry Reinsdorf's company. The SBGI citation is now used only to give the link to The Nest channel's streaming video. The Nest is an all new TV channel offered on Sinclair owned or managed TV stations replacing the Stadium sports channel. Steelbeard1 (talk) 11:17, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Steelbeard1, sorry, I wasn't really clear in that edit, I was evalulating the article from a WP:GNG standpoint and not verifiability, ref 2 contained zero mentions of "nest", therefore I presumed that it did not contribute to notability in your article. Justiyaya 11:25, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- That citation was to back up the edit stating that Sinclair sold their interest in the Stadium channel which is the reason Sinclair replaced that channel with their new channel called The Nest. Steelbeard1 (talk) 13:20, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Dr. CLJohnson (13:58, 2 November 2023)
hello, I would like to add an article on Pervasive and onmipresent gender binary, where do i go to add this --Dr. CLJohnson (talk) 13:58, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Dr. CLJohnson, WP:1st should provide some guidence on this, perhaps it would better fit as a section under an existing article though? Justiyaya 03:10, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Rwpowell100 (13:05, 5 November 2023)
I want to create a new article for my band LYLVC. We are an established band that has recorded three studio records and are currently on our third tour in the US. In the past we toured with bands such as New Years Day, Point North, Within Destruction, and Atreyu. We are currently on tour with Fame on Fire and Pop Evil. I believe we meet the criteria for having an article, I just need your help creating it. --Rwpowell100 (talk) 13:05, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there @Rwpowell100, please review our inclusion guidelines and produce three pieces of reliable secondary sources covering the subject in an significant manner. Most drafts are not published because this requirement is not satisfied and there is minimal things that could be done that would fix that.
- Additionally, please give a quick conflict of interest disclosure, simply place
{UserboxCOI|1=LYLVC}}
on your userpage. Justiyaya 13:14, 5 November 2023 (UTC)- Where should I submit my sources? Rwpowell100 (talk) 13:18, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Rwpowell100 Place it here and I could take a look, usually the sources are not really good enough though, so be warned that it might be a bit disappointing.
- Thanks for the COI disclosure, I really appreciate that. Justiyaya 13:25, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- https://heavymag.com.au/lylvc-release-music-video-for-into-nothing/
- I can provide more sources as needed. Rwpowell100 (talk) 13:31, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Rwpowell100 I don't see much significant coverage here, sorry. If you are convinced that the subject is notable, you can go through WP:1st and follow the steps there, but I think it might be a waste of time. You could also go to the teahouse and ask for a second opinion there, perhaps with different sources, you might get better advice than what I can give but I won't expect it to be dramatically different without significantly better sources.
- To provide a bit more reasoning, your first link is not independent as a page by the band themselves, second and third one effectively has three sentences (excluding quotes as non-independent), which does not really "[address] the topic directly and in detail". Apologies again if this all is confusing and feel free to ask for clarification. I might not respond in a few hours though as I have work to do. Justiyaya 14:08, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
