You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. 76.102.12.35 (talk) 18:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Greetings John N. Cohen, I see you're up for adoption, and I'm in the market. If ever you need advice or answers, just ask me -- any question, any time. I'd like to help however I can. If your main aim is to create an article about yourself, it may be difficult as the user above warns, but your contributions are still welcome. Happy editing - Draeco (talk) 15:25, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I called in reinforcements for this one; see my talk page. - Draeco (talk) 17:56, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You can link to outside articles by making an External links section and placing the web address under that section. I think linking to one of your images would be fine, but if you link to your website's main page it might be seen as promotional material. Someone would likely remove it in that case - Draeco (talk) 21:05, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply I have tried to add a link - but I am not sure about how to deal with the external links section. Please check the page and let me know if it is OK. The link is there and it works. John N. Cohen (talk) 10:01, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the text link on 'Spirit of Spring' to another page. Hope this is accepted. John N. Cohen (talk) 12:15, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My link (instead of a photo) has been removed. The link was to http://www.jncohen.net/Spirit_of_Spring.htm

Please can you suggest what I can do to enable readers to view what is a very different form of 'Painting with Light' since I am not prepared to give away my image copyright.

Most disappointed. I have three links from that page (one of them was back to Wikipedia) would the page be allowed without the link to my 'Painting with Light' page? The other link is to my free article describing how to do it, must that link go too?

Or were the links removed because of the way I had added them? I did ask you for help, but had no response.

Please let me know how to improve this for your readers.

I have replaced the same link but I have removed the link to my 'Painting with Light' page. So the link is to http://www.jncohen.net/Spirit_of_Spring.htm

Please let me know if this page is now acceptable. Thanks, JohnJohn N. Cohen (talk) 15:59, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This last link has been removed again!!! What can I do in order for readers to see some examples without giving up my copyright??? I feel at a loss to understand why my link keeps being removed. Can you please help me?John N. Cohen (talk) 19:03, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Light painting reversions[edit]

Hello again, I'm sorry I didn't respond to your earlier inquiries about the light painting article. Did you ask on my talk page? Anyway, I see you're very interested in the subject and have a desire to help, but don't understand why your links were removed. The best place to discuss this is on the light painting talk page. Make your case there, and you should prevail if you're in the right. I've also contacted the two separate editors who removed your links, so they an discuss it with you there. Good luck - Draeco (talk) 02:20, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It may help you to know that the guideline on external links is at Wikipedia:External links. If your links conform to those guidelines, they should be kept. - Draeco (talk) 02:22, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
