Kwik-E-Mart

I've been cleaning up the page and I think we should try and make the section on the 7-Eleven locations as nice as possible. However, I've run into a wall and I can't think of any other ways to expand it. Do you have any ideas? Simpsons GAs

With fiction articles, especially television episodes, going under a planned rationing, I'm just wondering when you and Scorpion0422 will be doing some episode work, beyond a Season 1 improvement drive. I'd certainly love to learn more about "Deep Space Homer" and "The Cartridge Family". By the way, which do you intend to see first? Transformers or The Simpsons Movie? Well yeah, that's excellent. I mean really, The Simpsons is the possibly the greatest self-deprecation humanity has ever created, though I don't want to sound too profound. So yeah, add it, it'll be excellent. I mean really, articles like Religion in The Simpsons should be featured. Have you read The Gospel According To The Simpsons by the way? Fantastic.

Maybe the 2006 Comic-Con is worthy of being in Marketing, but overall I'd rather wait to learn what was rejected. And I don't mean Bart in a coffin: major stuff dropped, like a character's fate. Yeah, I'm personally beginning to realise how valuable deleted scenes are: for me production sections used to be "how we did that", now for me it's become "why we did it" on Wikipedia, especially with animated films: how much detail can we go into on rendering CG hair? Thanks for the page numbers. And about The Simpsons Movie page, I think that if you, me and Alientraveller work at it, we might be able to skip the middle man, do a peer review and go right for FA. The article is coming along nicely, but in its present form a lot of the sections seem like random facts in sentence form, but hopefully we can work on it. Also, I was thinking that perhaps we should change the image on the Cape Feare/Homer's Phobia main page requests to images of the Simpsons star on the Holly wood Walk of Fame. I readded Homer's Phobia to the request. I removed it previously because I thought it would hurt chances if there were two articles but I think I have a good enough pitch. While working on the season 1 page, I couldn't find any reliable sources for all of the Emmy nominations, so I decided to cheat a little and use the Emmy database, even though you can't link to it. It's a shame because it really is a good site. I figured that it would be okay, because the Copyright Database is an acceptable source for the episode FL and this is basically the same thing. I have added as much to the Production section from the DVD commentary as I could. The CR section could still use some expanding, and there is a bit about the episode in Planet Simpson, but it goes to some weird territory, so I left it out for the time being. I found some free images of Albert Brooks - at least, I THINK they're free, I'm not very good at free image policy - for use on the YOMT page. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (film)

I noticed that you deleted the picture of the American DVD cover in this article and I wanted to ask you why you did so. I think the picture should still be in the aricle because the only other picture in the aricle was the European poster for the movie, and there were no posters or other pictures from America or such in the article. Alientraveller- I would like to point out that you have no idea how many people would go "say what?" if the article name was changed. I also would like to say that the American poster should stay (unless there is a policy or something in Wikipedia that says otherwise) in the article also because there is no reason why only the UK/England depiction should be on the page representing the movie, and not the American depiction. This also pertains to the title as, whay should the British title be the name of the article, why not the American title? I also would like to say that the poster also helps illustrate the difference between the two movies; they not only have a different depiction, but also different titles.  Bella Swan(Talk!) 17:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Transformers

Ah, it was excellent. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are so likeable, and the Autobots are a fantastic motley crew everyone will write fan fiction about for years to come. Optimus Prime's awesome and someone people will look to like a father-figure, with his excellent narration, and Bumblebee is like the perfect brother type. Ratchet = neat, Ironhide = awesome, Jazz = erm... Megatron is scary as hell, and Barricade and Frenzy shone, though most of the Decepticons were characters in the loosest sense; just antagonists, full stop. It's hilarious at times, the plotting is interesting and ILM will win an Oscar for the special effects. Only downfall is the dialogue is a bit muffled at times and the camerawork is blurry during the battles, but fortunately I could tell which robots were which. Goin' away

I'm going to be away until July 27, so could you please keep an eye on the You Only Move Twice FA and season one FL and address any concerns for me? I think they'll still be going when I get back, but you never know. As well, I am now doubtful that an episode will make the main page on July 27 because a couple users have opposed it, citing that Wikipedia could be accused of advertising. I, of course, doubt that because the release of the 7th harry Potter book made the main page. Simpsons Movie

Thanks for correcting me where I was off here and there in the article.. Thought it was fully USA today.. and I made a new trivia section. I'm not too good at the wikipedia stuff. Check out the new stuff I posted in the talk page, includes two new photos and a link to someone that has pictures of Matt Groening and David Silverman at the premiere.

oops.. didn't see the removal of the trivia section until just now. Why should that be deleted? I'm sure that people expect to find out some stuff about the movie if they come to the page. Is there a spoiler tag used here? Not trying to be an ass, just trying to figure out the policies of Wikipedia.

"The later episodes "Three Gays of the Condo" and "There's Something About Marrying" would again center around homosexuality." (Homer's Phobia)

I changed this sentence because the use of "would again center" is unnecessary here and can be replaced with a simple past tense verb. "Would again center" is what User:Tony1 calls the "journalistic backslung conditional" (see his comments at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Featured_log/December_2006#Star_Wars_Episode_IV:_A_New_Hope or Wikipedia:Featured_article_review/archive/November_2006#Lottie_Dod.) I added the dates for the sake of precision, so that users could know how much later those two episodes came after "Homer's Phobia."

I'll ponder it for a while. I do think this article still needs more copyediting, however. Look at this sentence, for example: "The two ideas were combined and became this episode, that was originally entitled 'Bart Goes to Camp', but it was changed as 'no one got it.'" Yeah, I just got home. My trip didn't go too well because myself and some friends were camping in an area where a known murderer is on the loose, so I was rather glad to get home. The Simpsons Movie Plot

Has bloated beyond use with horrible, horrible turns of phrase.

I have hacked it down, give it a look:

"The film opens with Green Day are playing a concert at Lake Springfield as they finish their song they try talk about the environment, angering the audience. Their barge dissolves and sinks, killing them. Lisa starts to talk about the environment, with no success until she meets a boy named Colin and they combine their efforts to give a talk called “An Irritating Truth”, after which the town decide to clean up the lake.

During a series of dares Homer and Bart end up at Krustyburger where a pig Krusty has finished using a commercial is to be slaughtered, and Homer adopts him, and he keeps the pig's “leavings” in an overflowing silo, horrifying Marge who tells Homer to dispose of it safely.

While waiting in a queue at the dump Homer that Lard Lad Donuts has been shut down and they are giving away free donuts. Homer decides on a quicker means of disposal and dumps the silo into the lake, causing it to become heavily polluted.

A mutated squirrel is captured by the EPA and Russ Cargill, head of the EPA, tells President Schwarzengger that Springfield is so polluted that the government must take drastic action. Springfield is sealed in a giant glass dome

The police reveal that Homer polluted the lake and an angry mob approaches the Simpson's house, the family escapes through a sink hole, which is then filled by the rubble from the Simpson's house. While on the run Homer proposes that the entire family move to Alaska,

In Springfield, the townspeople go crazy and attempt to break the dome. Russ Cargill tells the President that they can't keep Springfield in this state forever and Cargill he asks the President to choose another plan.

In Alaska, the family see an advertisement presented by Tom Hanks promoting a new Grand Canyon, to be located where Springfield is. Marge and the kids decide that they must save Springfield, but Homer refuses to help the town that tried to kill him.

After visiting with a mysterious Native American Homer has a vision and reaches an epiphany: he cannot survive without others, and must save Springfield and his family.

Marge, Lisa and Bart are captured by Cargill, and returned to Springfield. Cargill appears and tells the town that they are going to be killed and Springfield completely destroyed. A helicopter arrives and opens a hole at the top of the dome, lowering down a bomb.

Homer climbs the dome, making it to the top of the dome and jumping through the hole, knocking the escaping town people and bomb off the rope. Homer notices a motorcycle, grabs Bart, cycles up the side of the dome and Bart throws the bomb through the hole, detonating it and shattering the dome. The town praises Homer, Marge and Homer ride off on the motorbike into the sunset. The film ends with the everyone restoring Springfield, including the Simpsons' house, back to the way it was."

An idea

I had an idea for a Simpsons related FT - why not "The Itchy & Scratchy Show" or "Itchy & Scratchy episodes" - the topic would include the main article and the 5 episodes. I think getting all 6 would be easy, but there are problems:

  1. It might not count as a "well-defined topic"
  2. The FT people might want to include Krusty
  3. The FT people might want to include The Simpsons

Thoughts? We could try - we would 4 more episode GAs and a non-episode GA out of it. Getting I&S promoted would be easier than it sounds because a lot of the key info is concentrated in the 5 I&S episode commentaries. -- Scorpion0422 02:51, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I have started work on the I&S page here. Basically, I listened to the commentaires for Itchy & Scratchy & Marge and Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie and copied down all the info I think will be useful. As well, I copied info that can be used on the individual pages. As soon as we get enough info from the 6 episodes, we can start clean up. In terms of individual episodes, I'll do the first 2 (I&S&M and I&S:Movie), you can do 2 of your choice (The Front, The Day the Violence Died or Itchy & Scratchy Land) and we'll share the extra one. -- Scorpion0422 01:05, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

What I mean, is they just don't have enough sources to get higher than GA, their GA class, but they are not FA quality, and most likely never will be FA. The Simpsons Pictures

Yeardley Smith, along with Matt Groening, were the only notable cast staff members. The others were just writers, producers, etc.. Bill Morrison was there but I couldn't get a good photo of him.

It passed!

I'm so happy that You Only Move Twice has finally passed because truth be told, I think it's a MUCH better article than Homer's Enemy. And, season 1 will soon be passed too, so The Simpsons WP has 2 new featured pages to brag about.

As for the I&S potential FT, I think we should change it to "Episodes relating to The Itchy & Scratchy Show", because then we don't have to worry about the List of Itchy and Scratchy cartoons, which is an absolute mess and would be VERY hard to find reliable sources for the later seasons. -- Scorpion0422 22:04, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm proud to note that in about 15 minutes, I improved Groundskeeper Willie quite a bit, taking it from a 40+ KB mish mash of useless one episode info to a rather decent page. I'm back again

Yes, I am back and it's good to see that The Simpsons has passed. It seems that that one user has lost interest in Bart the Genius.

Anyway, I think I'm going to start work on the I&S show because I'd love to see more non-TV episode GAs. If you would like to do a joint GA again, I'd be up for it. The way we did things on Homer at the Bat worked out well. It's going to be a couple days before I get back into the episode GA mood, but until then I'll just work on I&S. Speaking of improvements, I just discovered that King-Size Homer is a twice failed GAC, but it still needs a LOT of work.
As well, I was thinking we should possibly think about our next FAC. There was little info on Troy in the season 10 commentary, but he may be our best bet right now. Another one is Some Enchanted Evening, which Maitch already has a good start on in one of his draft pages. As for Bart the Genius, that guy hasn't touched it in over a week and it's close to GA status, so perhaps we should finish it up and nominate it.

I did some work on I&S here and unfortunately, 5 entire episodes worth of DVD commentaries barely even gave me a paragraphs worth of production info. Any ideas? Simpsons episode screenshots

Hi, just wanted to let you know that the screenshots from Simpsons episodes you've uploaded in the past are in the incorrect aspect ratio. You've taken them from a PAL DVD source, which is encoded using non-square pixels at 720x576, so when played, the video is stretched out to 768x576 to assume the proper 4:3 aspect ratio (just like how NTSC DVD's are encoded with non-square pixels at 720x480 and are squished in to 640x480 to get the 4:3 AR). But the software you used to take these gave you screenshots directly from the non-square pixel video, giving you a 5:4 aspect ratio, and this results in everything in these images looking squished in, making things look taller. So in the future you might want to run them through photoshop after you export them and resize them to something like 720x540 or 640x480 before you upload them. I've fixed a few of the ones you've uploaded, and I'm just telling this so you don't continue to upload them like this in the future! :)

Starscream hates Megatron's guts. This is just something from day one of the franchise, where Starscream clearly stated his desire to become leader in the cartoon and eventually dumped Megatron's wounded body in space. The prequel novel to the film also shows Starscream actually hoped Megatron never be found. It's rumoured among fans Starscream actually shot Megatron along with the human piloted jets. Soundwave is pretty much going to be the one who tries to salvage Megatron: they're basically in love. In one episode of the 1980s cartoon they held hands! Alientraveller 21:08, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Not much happened. Hank Azaria was promoted yesterday, Troy McClure is heading for a pass and I nomed A Streetcar Named Marge, but it would help if you took a look at the plot. It's a very complicated episode and it was difficult to get the main point across - Homer is like Stanley and Marge realizes this - and still keep the section short.

I have been to both places - Singapore twice, and the Philippines more times than I can count. The primary languages spoken in Singapore are Mandarin Chinese and Malay, and the primary language in the Philippines is Tagalog and various dialects thereof.

However, I have again hit the snag that I don't own the book which has previously been used for sourcing (I looked for it at Chapters, but with little luck). I am REALLY getting sick of users who hunt around for decent pages and then nominate them without doing any work themselves, just so they can say "I worked on 1 FL". This is the fourth such case in 2 months (not including GAs). Are we ready to go?

I think we've added everything we can to Streetcar. I've scoured the internet for more sources and have done google searches of every news/media site I could think of with little luck. It could still use a little polishing, but we can nom it now and fix it as we go along. We likely won't get any peer reviews, besides, an FAC is the best peer review out there. So if you approve, I'll nominate it.

By the way, your help has been VERY much appreciated. Most of our other Simpsons FACs (except The Simpsons) have seen most of the work done by one person, but in this case having three people do the work has worked very well. If your interested in working together on another project, do you have any ideas for the next article we could work on? Homer at the Bat is currently the second closest to FA quality, but perhaps we could work on a new page, like a character, because I would love to see more character articles be improved.

Small update: I MAY have found a useable source, although it's kind of a stretch. [6] The author says "Jean was on board as The Simpsons's show runner in its third and fourth seasons, from 1991-'93 - the halcyon years that featured the episodes When Flanders Failed, Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes? and A Streetcar Named Marge - so he knows his Simpsons lore of yore." which insinuates that it is one of his favourites, although he does not specifically say that. It's a stretch, but CanWest is a HUGE media company in Canada (They own Global, which airs new episodes) and it would be great to have something from one of their writers. Part of the reason I chose Bob is laziness. There are only 6 commentary episodes with him, so it would mean less work. I was thinking Lisa because on the commentaries, she is the most discussed on the 5 family members. Need a source

For season 2, the three eyed fish episode won an Environmental Media Award but I haven't mentioned it on the page because I couldn't find any source other than SNPP or IMDB, not even the EMA website mentions it. You're better than I am at finding sources, do you think you'd be able to find one?

As well, I've finished adding commentary info to the Bob page, so I'll start organizing that eventually. There isn't as much as I had hoped there would be, so we should try and find some interviews. Check out the contributions of this guy, (put 69.69.47.139 into the search bar), he has made two good contributions and the rest are rubbish. I have undone all the errors he has made so far, but he might make more in the future. He's clearly not a vandal, but he's not far off. I think the current differences section is fine, unless you can find essays for thematic differences. I've noticed that a lot of people have been signing up for the project, but few have been doing anything for it, so I think from now on I'm going to leave a welcome message for anyone who joins - it would basically just be a "welcome to the project, here are our goals, here's what we've done, here's what were doing, if you need any help, ask ___ or ____" and with luck, that may net a couple good users.

As well, I was thinking that perhaps we should try asking everyone to reconfirm their membership (This has been done by severa; WPs, such as WP:OLYMPICS a few months ago). Hi! I heard from Scorpion that you are quite good on the reception sections. Kamp Krusty just failed a GA becuase it had unreferenced cultural references and a continuity section, which is apparently bad form. I agree with every merge, let's add Mona Simpson to that list. We should leave Milhouse with his own page for now, because merging him would cause a minor riot among many fans. As for Moleman, Cletus & Martin, we should keep them for the time being but try and find some independant sources that prove their notability. I found a few sources that could be handy.

  • An EW review of the show from November 1990 [7]
  • EW's "Fourteen guest stars whose standout performances on TV make us wish they'd turn up in a Simpsons Movie 2" [8] It could be a good source for reception sections. (Update: I just read it, and it really isn't that useful, but we could quote a few sentences. And, I found it funny that this image is the exact same one Wikipedia uses)

As well, I'm liking the way He Loves to Fly and He D'oh's is shaping up. It's got a decent reception section (and Al Jean called it one of his favourite episodes, so that could be added) and if we could add a decent Production section, we could have a shot at getting it to GA.

Finally, this user has decided to go after the DVD cover images because he dislikes the fact that their all listed on the main DVD boxset page. I'm trying to convince him to simply remove them from the DVD page but still let them be used on the individual seasons. -- Scorpion0422 02:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

He Loves to Fly and He D'oh's

I've been working on getting the page to GA status, but I think I need some refs. We can get away with not having a production section (see: Hell on Earth 2006) but we'd need to makie it up elsewhere. Anyway, if you could find some sources, it would be much appreciated.
