Nagorno-Karabakh

I didn't revert it because I dispute the fact that its officially part of Azerbaijan, and its not recognized by any country including Armenia. The reason for my revert was that the opening sentence is a result of a compromise between Armenian users and Azerbaijani users. If you continue reading the article you well see that it says "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), which remains unrecognized by any international organization or country, including Armenia." I hope this explains my revert. On a more personal note I hope we can put our differences aside, and work together to improve Wikipedia. Vartanm 21:50, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: first genocide

Actually, it's listed at Genocides in history#Congo. Perhaps you could {{main}} it off eventually. However, unpublished synthesis of published material is considered original research isn't it? As you probably already know, "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is whether material is attributable to a reliable published source, not whether it is true." It's our job to state what reliable sources say, and since Britannica says that, we can have that info in the article. However, if you can find any reliable sources that say that it isn't, perhaps that could be added as well. Khoikhoi 01:52, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Kurds in Turkey

Hi Deniz, thanks for asking me to join you improve the article; now that it is the beginning of the weekend I think we can both do a couple of improvements on the articles you mentioned. Please also if you're interested join the Kurdish WikiProject. I have just visited the Kurds in Turkey article and immideatelly encountered many mistakes, e.g. the Music section should talk about the music of Kurds only from Turkey because the rest is irrelevant in this article. Also the section could mention about the influence of Kurdish music on modern Turkish popular culture and music; songs like Le Rindike, Esmer, Cane Cane, Le Xanim, Seyran Mangi are amongst those famous set of songs translated to Turkish added to the culture of Turkey. Şebinkarahisar

Well, according to Justin McCarthy, "The Armenians rebelled in great numbers in Sivas Province and in Şebinkarahisar." This makes me think that the city once had a large Armenian population (the Russian article says this as well). Also see Xanthi, Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Rhodes, Kos, etc. Khoikhoi 04:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I consider McCarthy too controversial of a source to be used when it comes to this specific subject. I'm not sure the specific reason for adding the Armenian name (you might try asking Fedayee), but since it used to have a significant Armenian population, why not? Perhaps if the page is semi-protected, then the anon will be forced to use the talk page, and the conflict can hopefully be resolved. In my opinion, the Turkish, Slavic, Aromanian, and Ladino names of Thessaloniki should go at the top, because it is common practice on Wikipedia to do so. The city was part of the Ottoman Empire for a long time as well. Khoikhoi 06:22, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Denizz, I added additional info on Armenians in Sebinkarahisar. There used to be a significant population of Armenians before the AG and it was the spot of a fight between Ottoman authorities and 'karahisar townspeople. The image is in the public domain, which means you can do whatever you want with it. You should give it the same copyright tag that the original image had, which I believe would be "PD-NASA". Khoikhoi 22:07, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Meh. There's no limit on the number of deletion lists that an article can be added to, and it has no long-term effect on the categorization of the article. At worst, no-one watching the military deletion list pays any attention to it, and at best, it attracts a few more opinions to the deletion discussion. You should, of course, feel free to add it to any other (potentially more) relevant deletion lists. Carom 22:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Heh, well, given the relatively small number of military AFD's, I doubt editors will become enraged if they have to scroll past one or two discussion which are only peripherally related to the military. At any rate, Wikipedia in general takes a pretty broad view of the scope of the term "military," so I don't think it's stretching a point too much to include this one. Terrorism

I don't get it, you said "we need to avoid the terms like terrorism per wikipedia policy", and then added Category:Terrorism in Turkey. Huh? Khoikhoi 23:55, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I did that because terrorism is a 'forbidden' word on the text of a article on the English wikipedia and yet we have so many 'Terrorism in country X' categories, including Turkey. I guess, when you put something on a category Z on a page Y, you don't necessarily assert that Y is Z, just that Y is related to Z. I guess the answer is because Wikipedians say so.

Now if there is a category: Terrorism in Turkey, and there is, what do you think should be there, just ASALA and ? Is Turkey terrorism-free? Compare to other countries.

I checked the MIPT site, found the 'terrorist organizations based in Turkey list' there, and populated the category with the ones with fatalities. That means at least some notable organizations think that there are terrorist organizations in Turkey and that they are responsible of deaths of people (not just injuries). Add being recognized by nations as terrorist organizations.

Foreign Relations of TR

Foreign relations of Turkey article's reference #15 and picture there

They look so familiar/Turkish to me except the black kid and the rather dark guy. The woman in front is so much like my aunt, my mother's elder sister, her headdress, occasional covering of mouth, her posture, the impression she gives. The little girl in the front to our right is so much like my father's elder brother's two daughters, especially the older one, when she was younger. The boy on the right in front is like their elder brother. The little girl to the left looks a bit like my aunt's daughter when she was younger. Oh man... The face covering of the woman in the back is weird, though. I just had to say these. I can now sometimes distinguish Greeks and Turks from each other, but we don't have so many Armenians here, I don't know if I can distinguish Armenians and Turks. Long live the weird accent of Turkish people while speaking English, that helps 99% of the time. denizTC 01:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi, there is an allegation on the origin of the word yalı in the related article, but I sorrily have to say that this is only a folk etymolgy. That article includes many discrepancies, even though some of the stuff is true, the writer really mishmashed lots of bits together. I am disappointed, I thought LA Times would be better than that.. It says in the article "Although the National Action Party has been outlawed, its hard-right ideology continues to influence Turkish politics." - which is not true :) NAP repositioned itself as a more moderate party (which cause splinter groups like the Great Union Party to appear), and it is not outlawed - that's the most important thing: the writer got such basic stuff wrong (it refers to Gray Wolves as Neo-Nazi, which is not true, their true classification is ultra-nationalist), as such some of the conclusions are wrong and hyped up. There is a lof of true stuff, but better sources would be nice :) (I don't know where it is used for though) Baristarim 05:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Renaming Images

Bingo!! Deniz, asıl problem bu. Resimleri yükleyenler şehir/il/ilçe isimlerinigenellikle ingilizce harflerle, bazı durumlarda aynı yer için bazı resim/haritaları türkçe bazılarını ingilizce karakterlerle yüklemişler. Bir infobox'ta bazı haritaların görünüp bazılarının görünmemesinin nedeni bu. Neyazıkki wikide "Change Image name" fonksiyonu yok.(varsa da ben bulamadım). Ben bazı haritaları download edip doğru isimle tekrar upload ettim. Çok fazla işyükü getiriyor. WPTR de "Current tasks" sayfası yapmaya çalışıyorum. İlk işlerden biri bu yukarıdaki iş olmalı diye düşünüyorum. Commons'u tarayalım. İlgili "Image" ların listesini çıkarıp, işe girişelim(vandallardan zaman kaldıkça)

I am writing about the coordinator position in our project. I am not sure if we need a coordinator now, or do we? I mean we can all do what the coordinators do, bring more people in.
