User Page for Thaddeus Ballantine[edit]

I'm here as an editor to help improve content and to participate in a truly awesome project such as Wikipedia is. I consider myself to be more of an editor than a content producer. I like to find references for obscure trivia that has been flagged. I don't like excessive wikilnks. I think they are one of the coolest things about Wikipedia, but used excessively make the body text more difficult to read. Most good things in life are best in moderation. I will bring up topics in the talk section though I don't like to debate. More that likely even if you are dead wrong I won't reply or join in the discussion unless you send a private message to me. I treat this page and my sandbox as testing ground for anything or to give me something to learn. Just remember be bold and give everyone the benefit of not having doubt in them.

Tip of the Day[edit]

Shortcuts

A shortcut is a redirect that assigns an abbreviated title to a page in Wikipedia's behind-the-scenes namespaces. This lets you get to a page with fewer keystrokes.

Shortcuts to pages in the Wikipedia namespace start with "WP:". For example, the shortcut to Wikipedia:Department directory is WP:DIR.

When a page has one or more shortcuts to it, those shortcuts should be displayed on that page using the shortcut template.

Tip of the Day Random[edit]

Tip of the moment...
Using Special:MyPage to make private links

Special:MyPage is a special link that is dynamically linked to the current user's userpage. So, whoever clicks on it will be taken to their own user page.

If you add a subpage to the link, then only you will be taken to your subpage of that name. Other users will be taken to the subpage of that name in their namespace (if it exists).

This makes the link "private" by only letting the correct user get to the page via that link. Other users will diverted to their own userspace.

The code [[Special:MyPage/To-do list|To-do list]] creates this: To-do list.

However, this only makes the link private, not the page itself. Others can still get to it via the search box or by creating a new link with its entire title.

Courtyard of Ludwigsburg Palace

Ludwigsburg Palace is a 452-room complex of 18 buildings in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is the largest palatial estate in the country and has been called the "Versailles of Swabia". Eberhard Louis, Duke of Württemberg, began construction of the palace in 1704. Charles Eugene, the son of his successor, completed it and refurbished parts in the Rococo style, especially its theatre. Charles Eugene abandoned the palace in 1775, and it began a decline until Frederick, the future duke, moved into the palace in 1795. As King of Württemberg, Frederick and his wife Queen Charlotte renovated the entirety of the palace in the Neoclassical style. The palace was opened to the public in 1918. It underwent periods of restoration, including for its tercentenary in 2004. It has hosted the Ludwigsburg Festival annually since 1947. The palace is surrounded by gardens named Blooming Baroque (Blühendes Barock), laid out in 1954 as they might have appeared in 1800. (Full article...)
