Dr. Parvaneh Saeedi is an academic and engineer based in British Columbia, Canada. She is an Associate Professor, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and also the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Chair at the Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.[1][2]

Education[edit]

Dr. Saeedi did her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran.[2] She continued her education in Electrical Engineering and received a Master’s degree and a PhD at the University of British Columbia in 2004.[2]

Career[edit]

Dr. Saeedi worked at Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre from 2000 to 2006 where she was involved in automated image analysis to identify DNA fragments for the genome mapping project.[3] She was employed at MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (MDA) from 2004 to 2007.[4] At MDA she worked on projects such as European Space Agency's (ESA) ADM-Aeolus project, German satellite mission RapidEye, Automatic 3D Building Detection using aerial/satellite images.[3] Dr. Saeedi joined Simon Fraser University in the School of Engineering in January 2007 where she is now the Associate Dean for Faculty of Applied Science and an Associate Professor.[1]

Awards and Publications[edit]

Dr. Saeedi received the University Faculty Award by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) in 2007.[2] Over her years as a researcher she has published many journal articles. Some of her noted and most-cited works include "Vision-based 3-D trajectory tracking for unknown environments",[5] "Three-dimensional polygonal building model estimation from single satellite images",[6] and "Robust weighted graph transformation matching for rigid and nonrigid image registration".[7][8]
