vfd question[edit]

are admins allowed to vote in a vfd they close? Ryan Norton T | @ | C 01:25, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

It depends. On clearcut decisions its fine. On narrow decisions, like 2/3 and they close the same way they vote, its inadvisable. Redwolf24 (talk) 01:26, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

I just saw this and was a little confused. Thanks for clearing it up :) Ryan Norton T | @ | C 02:28, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

criminal behavior[edit]

"slander, libel, or defamation of character is not to be tolerated on Wikipedia; true instances of such writing, that might legitimately expose Wikipedia to legal sanction, should immediately be called to the attention of an administrator and/or the community at large. Disagreements as to the identity of a person, their motivations for a given action, opinions of third parties about them, etc. do not fall under slander, however, and you should not use legal threats as a bludgeon to get your POV enshrined in an article." - official policy

You are violating this policy by deleting requests at speedy deletions that attempt to enforce this policy. You are further engaged in criminal behavior by participating in a coordinated effort with User:Essjay, User:Howabout1, User:Raul654 and User:UninvitedCompany (who made the libel originally) to continue to expose Wikimedia to liability by doing what you can to keep comments or page history in view that is dangerous to Wikimedia and against avowed policy.

Wikimedia and persons libelled thus have grounds for a joint action against you, should this continue.

Yawn. First of all I'm nothing but an account in your eyes, there is no way for you to find EVEN MY IP ADDRESS unless you figure out some way to hijack Tim Starling's password. And besides that no one's taking you seriously as you aren't substantiating any of your claims anyway. Redwolf24 (talk) 22:24, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

VFD: ANTs Data Server[edit]

Hi. Please see: Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion/ANTs Data Server. bogdan | Talk 19:56, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

K I see that now. It was redirected now to a valid article. Redwolf24 (talk) 00:35, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

I think the keep vote should probably be reviewed. I don't think anyone would object if you looked at the number of socks who voted in the discussion and reversed the vote.

As it happens the person who removed the VfD tag earlier seems to have come back and reverted the redirect. I'm getting a bad feeling about this and strongly suspect a commercial operation to seed Wikipedia with advertising copy. As a database programmer I'd say the entry is sales talk. If you want more opinion you could raise it on WP:ANI or somewhere. --Tony SidawayTalk 00:48, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Alice[edit]

Yeah, but a solo band is still a band.Someoneinmyheadbutit'snotme 03:42, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Most of the time we refer to Alice Cooper in the article we say the band for before the band broke up. Redwolf24 (talk) 03:43, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Bass redirect[edit]

Helloo! You seem to know what you're talking about. Perhaps you could let me know about this one. I have been going through checking all the links to [[bass]] because they were pointing at a disambiguation page called Bass. I was making them point either to Bass guitar or to bass (fish) or to Bass (musical term) and so on. You have the idea already. Now I have discovered that someone has made the Bass article into a redirect page to [[bass guitar]]. This is sort of all right, because what used to be 'bass' is now 'bass (disambiguation)'. However, it does mean that all the links I didn't get round to fixing will automatically go to the bass guitar (which may be wrong, i.e. not what the reader wants) instead of to the disambiguation page (which should help them find the page they do want). Am I right to be concerned about this? Brequinda 12:53, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Sounds like there shouldn't be too many problems. Go to 'what links here' on bass guitar and scan it for pages you think may be referring to the fish. Though I'd bet most of the pages going to bass would mean bass guitar, just because of all the band pages. ;) Redwolf24 (talk) 13:11, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
Well, that was just a silly redirect, Bass is known for so many other things than just Bass guitar, I liked the previous version of [[Bass]] better as the disambig page, so I changed the redirect to point to Bass (musical term) instead. More general of a term, as I doubt everyone searching for Bass will want bass guitar. Who?¿? 18:36, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
Actually, nevermind, I reverted it back to the disambig version, the other new user didn't bother fixing any double-redirects or links, and [[Bass]] is better served as the disambig, seeings it has no specific meaning. Who?¿? 18:53, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

You what?[edit]

I didn't use the words or list the article as "patent nonsense". I merely suggested that undergraduates should be wheeled out and shot. Seems sound policy. --Tagishsimon (talk)

Question for you as a mediator[edit]

(this is a question based on an already resolved dispute about me - and there are no real right answers). So, a 3rd party was inserting a mock vote over the "votes for deletion" to "articles for deletion" page on the VfD talk page. An administrator removes the section with a personal attack on the 3rd party claiming that votes are not allowed. Afterwards, the protagonist puts the mock vote comments back, claiming that it is inappropriate to remove comments from talk pages without good reason. Then an edit war ensues between our protagonist and the admin. Finally our protagonist gets blocked, with the admin claiming a violation of WP:POINT.

How would you resolve this?

Ryan Norton T | @ | C 02:49, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

I don't see the POINT violation. I don't see evidence of the anon disrupting anything from the evidence you have shown me. The admin should not have blocked a user they were in an edit war with, this is strictly forbidden. I would unblock the anon and probably warn the admin. Redwolf24 (talk) 03:03, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Interesting :). Well, if you are curious to know what happened - the protagonist (which was me) was unblocked, and the involved parties (Admin was Kim Bruning) decided to move the mock vote to the user space of the 3rd party that created it, possibly leaving a link on the VfD talk page. Ryan Norton T | @ | C 03:07, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Well duh the protaginist was you. That was a given. :P Redwolf24 (talk) 03:08, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Break[edit]

Since I jumped on you over it, I'm leaving you a note. I'm going on a little Wikibreak. You know I've slowed down recently, and I'm not sure what I want the future of my contributing to be. For the time being, I'm going to pull back. You may see me doing a few little things, answering talk page posts, etc., but if you need me, send me an email or catch me on MSN. I'm not putting up a wikibreak notice on my page because I don't want a flood of "please don't leave" notices to sort through. Anyhow, see you around. -- Essjay · Talk 04:32, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

K, seems fair. Redwolf24 (talk) 04:34, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Help please![edit]

Hi, I would like to delete the last comment I made on a talk page (I mean including history and not including this one). I'm not sure how or whether I can do it. Is it possible?

Thanks! Nao* 15:25, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, we can't. The only people who are technically able to are admins, such as myself, and this is normally discouraged. Plus even if I deleted a comment of mine from the history another admin would be able to view it. The only times we fully remove things, i.e. with developers, is for... well one example would be an anon who posted the FULL BOOK VERBATUM of Harry Potter book 6. Anyways the point is, no, you cannot remove it from the history. Just pray that they never read it ;) Redwolf24 (talk) 22:28, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for answering that question (and thanks to Nao for asking it) as I had been wondering about deleting history for a while. By the way, it's "verbatim". I take it the etiquette on editing talk page posts with typos are to leave them alone, correct? (Thanks to the trusty google toolbar's spelling check, one does not see nearly as many typos and mispellings as they might otherwise) -Sunglasses at night
I know its verbatim, that was a typo. And you have permission to fix typos all that you please at this page. It makes me appear to be smarter ;) Redwolf24 (talk) 22:54, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
Thank you sir, you as well (and that goes to everyone, on every one of my posts). I am a horrible speller, and as long as you dont rub it in, I'll be endlessly thankful. Good day, good sir. -Sunglasses at night 22:56, 1 September 2005 (UTC)

My objection[edit]

Sure, The wikiproject is meant to be a collaboration. The History of Alaska is good, worthy of FA, but it was started on Aug-30 and submitted on Sep-1. Toothpaste has done really well but a very large chunk of the additions has come from herself. If I'm given assurances from a resident of Alaska that there are no problems with the history, I'll withdraw my objection. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:06, September 2, 2005 (UTC)

Well also notice you are the first to object, wouldn't an Alaskan object to the FAC? Toothpaste even sourced all her facts. Redwolf24 (talk) 22:10, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

uploading sound files?[edit]

Redwolf, can you direct me to the appropriate tutorial? Also, can I put in a plea for some kind of search mechanism for Wiki special, how-to pages? It's often hard to find what you want. Tony 05:11, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia. And for the special pages, just go to Special:Specialpages, and you should be able to find what you want. Every page possible is there, cept for a few which you can't access as you're not an Admin, Bureaucrat, or Developer. Redwolf24 (talk) 22:14, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

What's your program?[edit]

What's your program, Sir? You just posted to the Toby discussion in such a way as to make clear that you (a) looked at the demo and (c) proceeded immediately to comment without (b) reading any of the discussion inbetween. If you think that's a lot of work, it is -- and I don't think anybody not willing to put in the work should have much of a voice. You might at least have the courtesy to begin your remarks with, "Well, I didn't actually bother to understand this proposal, but..."

You decided to inflame public opinion by zapping another's user page before I had even finished constructing Zap. As I can see by that user's comments here, that was not "okay".

It's difficult enough to build useful tools and explain them to people without having editors shitting on them -- without thought, without care. I'm sure you'd be happy if I just went on my way and left Wikipedia all to you and your buddies as your own private Sandbox. Congratulations! You're starting to bring me around to your point of view. — Xiongtalk* 23:33, 2005 September 3 (UTC)

I have talked to WikiFan04 in the IRC room about that whole thing. It was originally intended as a joke I thought he would get, but his reaction was negative.
But that's not the point of all this. Whenever someone disagrees with something you put up you always say 'stop shitting on it and try to help us with it' But why should we help you with something that we don't even agree with. Democrats shouldn't make fun of Bush, no... they should contribute to his campaign. And I have seen you accuse Dan of a personal attack on you at the VfD, and now you're saying here "well, I didn't actually bother to understand this proposal, but...".
