From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think the current page is dull, but you probably had a reason to come here. Therefore, I try to explain what I am doing on Wikipedia.

Long story short, my aim is to make Wikipedia tidy for the sake of readability and practicality rather than adding more content.

Things I Do on Wikipedia[edit]

Punctuation[edit]

When reading a book or an article, you read a long text written in a specific style and well copyedited. I believe copyediting is underrated here. It annoys me that people consider punctuation a trivial matter. When reading about a topic on Wikipedia, punctuation is imperative because we have to capture the content quickly, probably within a few sentences.

I have no claim on this matter, as I frequently make grammatical mistakes, but I care about it.

Grammatical and Typographical Errors[edit]

Sometimes I re-write a sentence for the sake of clarity while maintaining the original meaning.

I follow WP:ENGVAR to improve the consistency of an article. I comfortably write in both British and American English.

References[edit]

I believe Wikipedia has proved to be an excellent starting point for research (of any kind). An essential requirement is then the quick accessibility of pertinent references. I do my best to find and add the missing information in the references, particularly primary IDs, which can lead the readers to the article under consideration.

For this purpose, I use official sources such as the publisher, PubMed, arXiv, CrossRef, etc. If there is a mistake, most likely, I am reflecting a mistake in the official source. Of course, I usually double-check the information with different sources, but still, mistakes happen!

Things I Normally Don't Do on Wikipedia[edit]

Reverting Others' Edits[edit]

Many fierce editors regularly check the integrity of articles, as random people may add biased content.

Hot Topics[edit]

Many enthusiasts quickly update Wikipedia articles in the light of the news. While I think some pages receive little attention, I am not in the position to regularly check them.

Creating New Pages[edit]

I rarely create a new page unless I find a topic oddly missing, which is quite unlikely.
