  • Comment: This is my third nom, so no QPQ needed

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article is new and long enough, QPQ is satisfied, no signs of copyright violation, and the hook is cited and interesting. Overall, I would say good to go! —JJonahJackalope (talk) 01:21, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

@JJonahJackalope: I'd like to make a small change to the hook (ALT1 below). Sorry for the late change, but I realized that the quote shouldn't be attributed directly to Freedman, but to Freedman via Menadue (the source), i.e. Menadue is summarizing Freedman's book. How does this look? —Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 09:50, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
ALT1: ... that English professor Carl Freedman views science fiction as "the most legitimate genre for academic study" per scholars Menadue & Cheer?
@Olivaw-Daneel: Terribly sorry for the oversight, but yes, the new hook properly attributes the quote. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 12:02, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
@JJonahJackalope: That seems to make it a less interesting book though -- somebody reporting what someone else has said. Richard75 (talk) 16:05, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
Fair point, but unfortunately I can't think of a rephrasing of the original hook that works well. Looking through the preface for Freedman's book, I see a few statements that might work well in hooks and convey similar sentiments, maybe one of those could be used? How about one of these?
ALT2: ... that English professor Carl Freedman places science fiction above all other genres in terms of "the rigors of dialectical thinking"?
ALT3: ... that English professor Carl Freedman places science fiction above all other genres in terms of "historical concreteness and rigorous self-reflectiveness"?
Based on these statements in the book: science fiction is of all forms of fiction today the one that bears the deepest and most interesting affinity with the rigors of dialectical thinking, and Of all genres, science fiction is thus the one most devoted to the historical concreteness and rigorous self-reflectiveness of critical theory (@JJonahJackalope and Richard75). —Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 18:12, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
I like ALT3. Richard75 (talk) 18:16, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
Same here, I think ALT3 works the best. -JJonahJackalope (talk) 19:13, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
Ok with me, except I'd change "thought [...] was" (implies he may no longer think so) to something like "views [...] as" or "considers [...] as". Olivaw-Daneel (talk) 19:15, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
