Why was this removed?

I didn't see mention of that in any of the references. I am reluctant to simply accept text from zh:吴传玉 without a reliable source, but I'm hoping that a request I put on the zh.wiki talk page will lead to us finding a source to add that material back into the article. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 20:49, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The differences between the two versions were quite pronounced, including the month and country, and number of the games. Badagnani (talk) 20:57, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just went by the English translation of the link you gave me. On Google, it states August 1953, the 4th Youth and Student Peace Friendship Festival held in the Romanian capital of Bucharest. On Yahoo, I get in August, 1953, the fourth session of youth and the student peace friendship festival capital Bucharest was held in Romania. Neither version mentions the World University Games. I suspect the original author on zh.wiki made a mistake, since the first Universiade was held in 1959, after he died, and the 12th games were held in 1983. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 21:11, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm the author of the zh version of Wu Chuanyu. There are numous records that mentioned there was a "12th World University Students Games" held in Budapest. Then I googled out that there was a WORLD STUDENT GAMES held in Budapest [1]. Wu attended this event. 金翅大鹏鸟 (talk) 03:12, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It also said "Budapest," not "Bucharest." Badagnani (talk) 21:25, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks--so he went to both Bucharest and Budapest? Badagnani (talk) 03:18, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. He went to Bucharest in 1953. Then he returned to China. In 1954, Wu and the whole Chinese Swimming team was sent to Budapest ro recieve training. At Budapest, Wu attended the 12th UIE. After that, as a member of the first People's Congress, Wu flew back to Beijing. In Oct., the congress concluded and Wu was scheduled to continue his training in Budapest. However, he died in the aircrash. 金翅大鹏鸟 (talk) 03:35, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, we'd better fix that. It's really nice of you to contribute here. We can draw on each other's work to make both the zh:WP and en:WP articles equally complete and accurate. But we don't understand why he returned for the People's Congress--was he also a politician or CCP member? Isn't the Congress only for Party leaders, not sportspeople? Badagnani (talk) 03:42, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, good question. You have to understand the Chinese political stracture. The so-called People's Congress is NOT an assembly of politicians. It is a "rubber stamp", that is to say, it'll pass every proposals from CCP. Since there is need of political experience, the Congress is highly "representative". All walks have their representives in the Congress. All the Representives have their own daily jobs, only attending the Congress once a year for two weeks. 金翅大鹏鸟 (talk) 04:02, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, okay, then can we determine exactly when, and why, and by whom, Wu was made a member of this body? Badagnani (talk) 04:13, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, do you have any references we can cite for this article? Thanks for your help! — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 04:42, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
