A torpedoman who served on the Tambor has published a memoir about his time on the USS Tambor. It would be interesting to get a copy and use it to flesh out this page... Were Pirates: A Torpedoman’s Pacific War NGC1976 (talk) 06:28, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

When was first war patrol?[edit]

The article seems to say her first war patrol started just after Pearl Harbor and ended before she went to Mare Island. Then later it says her first war patrol started after she returned from Mare Island. Which is it? Kendall-K1 (talk) 15:37, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The second is correct, but arguably, they both are. Tambor was on simulated war patrol in November '41 & was off Wake when the Japanese attacked. Her first "sailed on war patrol" was in March '42. TREKphiler ^{any time you're ready, Uhura} 18:38, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've re-worded it, see if you think it's accurate. I changed "when WWII broke out" because the war had been going on for a couple of years before 1941, just not between the US and Japan. Kendall-K1 (talk) 22:38, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Link to tambor[edit]

The link to tambor is obviously wrong. DANFS says the ship was named for "the red rock fish of the Pacific coast," so I'm going to link it to Sebastes, although I can't find anything that says there is a species in this genus known as the "tambor." Just found an entry in Fishes of the Pacific Coast: From Alaska to Peru (p. 41) that says the Yelloweye Rockfish, Sebastes ruberrimus, is also known as the tambor. Kendall-K1 (talk) 22:55, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
