Some remarks that apply more generally, and if someone wants to copy them elsewhere they can. First, all statements that the Buddha taught such-and-such should be deleted from Wikipedia or rephrased. There are sceptical scholars who question all such, saying there is insufficient evidence to establish them.

Second, attempts to present the Buddha as fashionably feminist are usually slanted. One must be very careful to maintain a neutral point of view here. According to the Pali Canon women can be arahants but not Buddhas. The Buddha, in authorizing nuns, says they will weaken the teaching and shorten its lifetime, and lays down rules that thoroughly subordinate nuns to monks. The Canon indeed includes material of female authorship, but it also includes some incredibly misogynistic material, most notably the Kunalajataka. Peter jackson 11:57, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
