Genres[edit]

Zubin12 thanks for working on the article, and I promise to read your plot with the eye of a Gaiman-fan(atic) sooner or later.

Now, I have seen editors have lengthy discussions about genre but then it's usually about music or film. Anyway, I checked the other Sandman-book articles, and I have no problem with dark fantasy. Horror... maybe, at a long stretch but not in my view. And black comedy seems just wrong. So, are you ok with removing those two, otherwise I'd like to see some good cites. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:26, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gråbergs Gråa Sång Thanks, I always appreciate feedback on my writing. If you think the genres were wrong feel free to change them, I just copied over the ones from the original Series Wikipedia Page to use. I think that we could probably remove Dark comedy and replace it with something else but I'm not sure what, perhaps Magical Realism or Urban Fantasy ?. Supernatural or Mysthicsm could also be good fits, it's kinda hard to categorize. Maybe there should be an RFC or something? Zubin12 (talk) 15:35, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, and I don't dispute that there are Sandman-stories that have obvious horror-elements, but if you check the individual volume-articles, genres are more restricted. I don't think we have to do a formal RFC, perhaps just ask for more opinions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics, and/or see what's in the good sources. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:49, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
...and "Supernatural fiction" is pretty indisputable, sure. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:50, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Zubin12 One thing on writing plots: Imagine your reader is someone who never read Sandman, just checking this article because they saw the book in a bookstore. When they read stuff like "Saeculm" and "Mad Hettie", they can only go "huh??" Look at the plot of The Sandman: A Game of You, it's pretty decent. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:01, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can see your point, my summary is a bit rambly and the grammar is problematic. I've tried to explain some of the more unusal terms in the story along with providing a description of Mad Hettie. Zubin12 (talk) 02:55, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"(Secretly Death)"? I may have you banned for heresy. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:21, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh,Frick so sorry. In my defence it was around midnight when I finished writing the description. But amazingly stupid of me to confuse Desire with Death. Zubin12 (talk) 12:02, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Since I'm not among those editors who never make mistakes, I forgive you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:39, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well Neil Himself commented on the poor quality of the article https://twitter.com/neilhimself/status/1026610953507557377, I feel pretty bad right now. Zubin12 (talk) 23:53, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Buttons in eyes, Gaiman commented on an article I created. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:45, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And don't feel too bad, WP is a work in progress. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:53, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate Plot Summary[edit]

I have written an alternate plot summary of the series more line with those of the other volumes of the series. Thoughts on this ?

"On an alien world, an aspect of Dream senses that "something is very wrong", and dies in flames. In London 1915,[1] while intending to deal with the troublesome nightmare The Corinthian, Morpheus is alerted to the same wrongness and is summoned to an alien world to investigate

A meeting is held on an Asteroid planet described as "Galaxies away from earth" various aspects of the dream from different sentient species in the Marvel universe are present and have been awaiting his arrival to investigate. After consulting the oldest Aspect of Dream and another figure known as "Glory of the First Circle" he learns that the cause of the wrongness is the insanity of a star which will spread until the universe itself is destroyed, additionally, Glory claims that the fault for the insanity lied with Dream.

Realizing that the source of the madness was his mishandling of a past Vortex, he embarks on a journey to achieve two unstated goals, accompanied by Desire disguises as a feline aspect of Dream Himself. Over the course of their journey, they meet the 3 fates and an orphaned alien girl named Hope. After telling a story to pass the night, he confirms that his mission isn't to save the universe as he has accepted it's too late to stop that.

Instead, the first journeys to the domain of his father Time who refuses his request for aid saying that he has already given him too much. As he leaves, he sarcastically ask's his father if he has spoken to his mother Night recently. Emerging out his father's domain he appears at the gate of the "City of Stars" their original destination and is granted entrance after a heated exchange with other starts. Entering the prison of the Mad Star, he tell's the story of how his refusal to kill a vortex led to the madness spreading to an entire solar system. After having destroyed the entire planet, he spared the sun reasoning that he had done enough killing on that day. Finishing his tale, he attempts to destroy the mad star but fails after his prison transform into a throne room.

The other stars reveal that the madness has spread to infect them and they will kill the child. Before he can protect her, his father summons him back to his domain and ask's if he could put him in contact with his mother. He remarks that he is feeling better towards him, as a future aspect of Dream has returned the Speculum which he had lost. Returning back from his father's domain, the star's have killed Hope and have tossed Dream into a Black Hole.

Inside the black hole, Dream visit's his mother Nights Domain, after he mentions his father Time's wish to visit her she rebuffs him and offers to create a personal Dreamworld where may be happy. After that offer is rejected he is thrown out of the dimension as his mother remarks that he has been very selfish.

He is summoned to Destinys domain after a short while in the black hole after a mysterious ship belonging to Dream appears in his Garden, Desire has been discussing members of various species from the surrounding galactic war and housing them in the ship. Desire reminds Dream, that he reflects reality and that the universe can be saved.Journeying into the realm of his sister Delirium, he learns that the Cat isn't an aspect of Him. Returning he instructs hope to have the inhabitants of the ship dream of a changed reality, while he guides the ship towards that reality. Succeeding he arrives at the original meeting place from the beginning, where Glory congratulates him on his success. Weekend by his effort, he begins his journey home but is captured setting up the events of the original series."

I've been meaning to take a look at this, but I want to re-read the book first. Will take time. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:46, 8 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Argento Surfer Well spotted on the WaPo. However, the current text in the article is not supported by the text in WaPo.[1] Care to have a go at it (as in rewrite per source)? That is, if it is WP:DUE to mention it in this aricle, I'm not convinced. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:14, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
