Cannons of Damagaram[edit]

Which source states that Damagaram had 12 cannons? From my recollection from the works of Ann Dunbar, Damagaram had two cannons. None of which had ever been fired. So they were mainly symbolic. The fact that they had never been fired was the reason why panic broke out in the Damagaram army when the French Colonial forces fought them at the battle of Tirmini. Upon hearing the sound of their cannons, the Damagaram army was gripped with fear and fled. Someone who is knowledgable in Damagaram history may want to double-check this information and adjust the main article accordingly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diyandilo (talkcontribs) 05:24, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced[edit]

The passage;

"The Sultanate of Damagaram was founded in 1731 (near Myrria, modern Niger) by Muslim Kanouri aristocrats, led by Mallam (r. 1736–1743). Damagaram was at the beginning a vassal state of the decaying Kanem-Bornu Empire, but it quickly came to conquer all its fellow vassal states of western Bornu. In the 1830s, the small band of Bornu nobles and retainers conquered the Myrria kingdom, the Sassebaki sultanates (including Zinder). By the 19th century, Damagaram had absorbed 18 Bornu vassal states in the area."

is entirely unsourced and I couldn't find anything confirming it, I couldn't even find any mention of a "Myrria Kingdom" online. Does anyone have any confirmation on the legitimacy of this passage? Duchy2 (talk) 21:03, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
