He now advises UNESCO ex-officio. He was the Professorial Chair in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle (NSW) from 2006 to 2010. He was the Professorial Chair of Architecture and Head of Discipline at Queensland University of Technology from 2002 to 2006. Not done: When a dead link is found in a reference, the usual practice is to mark it as such until a replacement reference or archive copy can be found. Two of the reference links no longer point to where they should, so I marked them as dead. I did remove the dead external link. RudolfRed (talk) 04:26, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Lehmann is the Chair Professor of Sustainable Design and Behaviour in the School of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia. He is the founding director of two research centres: the Zero Waste SA Research Centre for Sustainable Design and Behaviour, which began in 2010, and the China-Australia Centre for Sustainable Urban Development, an international research centre co-located at the University of South Australia and Tianjin University, China, which began in 2012., Both centres have highly focused research agendas and undertake research projects funded through competitively-won, peer-reviewed grants in collaboration with government and industry partners.

Lehmann is among the pioneers of research into sustainable urbanism and, since the 1990s, has been designing deep green buildings. His book, The Principles of Green Urbanism (2010) is considered a seminal work in the field. In it, he investigates the fundamental drivers of contemporary urban form and proposes a new model of urban development based on a holistic framework and systems thinking to create sustainable cities. His work focuses on compact cities, green urbanism and sustainable design.

Lehmann held the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Urban Development for Asia and the Pacific from 2008 to 2010. He now advises UNESCO ex-officio. He was the Professorial Chair in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle (NSW) from 2006 to 2010. He was the Professorial Chair of Architecture and Head of Discipline at Queensland University of Technology from 2002 to 2006. In December 2002, he was appointed Chair in Architecture and full professor in Australia. In 2003 he completed his doctoral studies at the Technical University, Berlin.

Since 2006 Lehmann has been the editor of the US-based Journal of Green Building and works as an advisor to various governments and municipalities. A reviewer for the Australian Research Council, Lehmann has been an external assessor of research funding applications for national science foundations and funding bodies in Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Israel, the US, Hong Kong and Australia. He has been a juror for international design competitions, such as Leipziger Platz in Berlin, Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi, Harmony Point in Ho-Chi-Minh City, Hub-to-Hub in Singapore and the Zero-Emission Challenge in Adelaide.

He has held visiting professorial positions at leading universities, including: Arts Academy Berlin-Weissensee (1997-98), Tongji University, Shanghai (2003), Technical University Berlin (2005), UniTech in PNG (2006), National University of Singapore (2009), Technical University Munich (2009 DAAD Professor) and the University of California at Berkeley, College of Environmental Design (2012).

Lehmann is the founding director of the s_Lab Space Laboratory for Architectural Research and Design (Sydney-Berlin), which he began in 1993. With s_Lab he designed and built significant projects in historical locations in Berlin. During the 1990s, he was instrumental in the urban re-development of Berlin’s city centre and has built large-scale buildings in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz, Hackescher Markt and Pariser Platz.

He holds three post-graduate degrees; after graduating from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London (1989) he worked with some of the world's most respected international architecture practices: from 1990 to 1993 he worked as an architect in the offices of world-recognised architects: James Stirling in London and with Arata Isozaki in Tokyo, before establishing his own research-based practice in Berlin. He has been registered as a Chartered 'Architekt' with the Architektenkammer Berlin since 1993, and has been a member of Berlin’s Bundesverband Deutscher Architekten since 1996 and of Australia’s Royal Institute of Architects since 2003.
