Indigenous Slaves[edit]

Just want to say that the term used to describe slaves in that part of the article actually means servant. Catholic or Jesuits[edit]

"Oda Nobunaga was presented with a black slave by Catholic priests," but the Yasuke specifies Jesuits. I'm not well versed in the different Christians sects but those two aren't the same are they? 198.6.46.11 14:24, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jesuits could be considered a type of Catholic, but their philosophy and interpretation of the significance of Jesus's life is distinguishable enough from other sects to warrant them their own sect, in my opinion. Enderandpeter (talk) 01:18, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Start of slavery[edit]

"The practice of slavery in Japan developed only after the establishment of Yamato period (3rd Century)" How can this possibly be known? I suppose the first mention of slavery just happens to come from the 3rd century? Ornilnas (talk) 13:36, 28 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reference 39 issue, Javanese implied death rate[edit]

Am hesitant to request its deletion or edit the figure, as it may indeed be true, concerning the repatriation of Javanese following the construction of the Burma Railway— but the original source (page no longer there) I take umbrage with.

Is the publication ‘Counterpunch’ really considered an appropriate resource for a scholarly topic?
