Needs review[edit]

Although I wrote this page, and have dumbed it down considerably from a truly technical article, I still feel it contains too much detail and may be confusing to a casual reader. Unfortunately, I feel I am too familiar with the subject to further simplify it, and so would appreciate someone else, with some knowledge but not a huge amount, coming along and simplifying it more. The article is definitely a good one. If you need simplicity, seek for a different one. If you need even more details, the original documentation can be downloaded 3gpp.org. I'd be interested to learn how SMS federation between several mobile networks works. How does one network know which network a particular number belongs to? Does it use the normal number portability databases which are used for voice? Or are there seperate databases for SMS? -- 62.156.60.200 (talk) 20:08, 11 March 2012

SMS failed delivery storage/deletion[edit]

When an SMS msg cannot be delivered, it is stored in the (sender's) SMSC in the FIFO queue (one queue per target). if not delivered, the message will be deleted at the end of the retries attempts, which depends on the retry policies implemented by the network operator.
