Kurowski[edit]

Kurowski is not a WP:RS source per WP:MILMOS, as he's not a reputable historian (see below).

  • Franz Kurowski, a veteran of the Eastern front, saw his two major works released in the U.S. in 1992 (Panzer Aces) and 1994 (Infantry Aces). Smelser & Davis write: "Kurowski gives the readers an almost heroic version of the German soldier, guiltless of any war crimes, actually incapable of such behavior... Sacrifice and humility are his hallmarks. Their actions win them medals, badges and promotions, yet they remain indifferent to these awards." Kurowski's accounts are "laudatory texts that cast the German soldier in an extraordinarily favorable light", they conclude.[1]

I plan to copyedit this article to reduce the amount of non-notable details sourced to Kurowski. Please let me know if there are any concerns. K.e.coffman (talk) 01:25, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ailsby[edit]

Ailsby is not a WP:RS source for the statements presented in the article; he's not a reputable historian:

  • The historian Henning Pieper notes a "huge array of non-scholarly works which can be summarised as belonging to genre of 'militaria literature'". He includes books by Christopher Ailsby, Herbert Walther, and Tim Ripley in this group.[1]

I will copyedit the problematic areas. K.e.coffman (talk) 04:49, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

Does not meet WP:SOLDIER & sig RS coverage not found link. Notability is not inherited from the famous father. K.e.coffman (talk) 02:45, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Time for a re-examination of his notability as things have moved in since this redirect. He death brought a large number of international obituaries no doubt prompted by the book he authored on his father. Kingbird1 (talk) 22:26, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WikiLink[edit]

@K.e.coffman: Hi! The WikiLink for this name as it appears on the List of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients (R) article links back to this same article. I thought MOS:OL stated "Do not link to pages that redirect back to the page the link is on" with the caveat that the link is allowed when it is a redirect with possibilities that links to an appropriate section of whichever current article is used. Is that the case here? Thanks for any help you can offer.  Spintendo  12:15, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Spintendo: thank you for the note. The self-redirect is due to the outcome of the discussion at Notability:People on notability of Knight's Cross recipients. As the result, certain recipients were deemed non notable and WP:SOLDIER has been modified accordingly: diff. The articles of these recipients were redirected to alphabetical lists.
Given the large number of redirects and complex setup of the list articles (via tables), it was not practical for me to remove the links from the alphabetical lists. At one point, someone mentioned developing a script to handle the removals, but it never happened. --K.e.coffman (talk) 03:59, 10 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
