Previous job[edit]

He came as a guest on Top Geear, where he mentioned that he used to work at the Met Department as a Hurricane Namer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.197.140.86 (talk) 19:28, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A joke perhaps??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.203.235 (talk) 16:06, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I, too, saw this. It's cited elsewhere, but nothing that's too official. On the show, he presented it as though it wasn't a joke, but deadpan is his style. Given that the names are cycled through in order and reused, it seems pretty unlikely that he actually named hurricanes.Jtrnp (talk) 23:29, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Inspiration for Moe?[edit]

It sounds like he claims it and claims Groening backs it up, but I thought this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_%22Red%22_Deutsch was the inspiration!

Rich is the inspiration for the voice and attitude of Moe, Red Deutsch was the inspiration for the prank calls and later the boxing/child actor back story of Moe. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.10.84.3 (talk) 12:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

IMDb says he was born in North Carolina, and I can't find a single source that says he's Canadian, but somebody changed his nationality and biographical details to Canadian on October 8. In the meantime I've reverted it, but if he really is Canadian can somebody provide a real source to confirm this? Thanks. I won't hold my breath, though. Bearcat 19:34, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He wasn't born in Canada or North Carolina. He was born on June 10, 1954 in Alexandria, Virginia, according to his older brother, who is a friend of my family. (Who was quite entertained at speculation of both Canada and North Carolina as his brother's place of birth. He said he even thinks the hospital was Alexandria Hospital, but he was just a year old at the time, so he can't be absolutely certain.) He did point out that Rich Hall frequently travels to Canada. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 63.3.7.129 (talkcontribs) 23:44, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

he says in it stand up that he is from Montana -chris —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.31.43.89 (talkcontribs) 17:06, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is definately not Canadian. I saw him live in the early eighties at the University of Manitoba, and he stated that he had no knowledge of hockey, eh? - UncleSparky —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 142.161.15.211 (talkcontribs) 19:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, folks, but none of this information is reliabily sourced (i.e., shown to be published by a reliable organization), so we can't use it. (Nor is it useful that he and my sister were friends in school, either. ) What we do have is IMDb's assertion that he was born in Alexandria, Virginia. Therefore, I have changed his birthplace to reflect this and have added a specfic source citation. (While I was at it, I also fleshed out and expanded the other sources in the article.) Please do not change this information unless you can provide a properly cited source. If you can, and it conflicts with IMDb, the article must include some mention of the varying reliably sourced claims. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 23:44, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it helps for citation sources, he mentioned in his Live at the Apollo standup that he was "commanded" by the queen "to help celebrate Americans who have helped make a cultural contribution to Britain". Part of the joke centred around him being asked what it was he did and he said comedian and Prince Philp mishears and thinks he said Canadian and guards try to throw him out until he corrects the mistake. 78.86.230.62 (talk) 23:54, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey guys, his nationality in the info box now states he is American/British. Obviosley he was born in America so i dont think this is true, I know he spends a lot of time in Britain and has residence here and in America but has he ever claimed British citizenship and can anyone provide a source? if not i think it should be changed to just American 94.168.197.169 (talk) 03:28, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed it back, this has been disputed before [1] so it should definitely not be re-added without a reliable source. January (talk) 21:13, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Western Carolina University?[edit]

I removed the sentence saying that he attended Western Carolina University because it didn't have a source. I googled it and I haven't found a single reliable source that says he did attend WCU. If someone has a source, please repost it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.30.220.76 (talk) 00:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rich Hall's Onion World[edit]

Is there any info on this? I remember it, but not enough to write any sort of article for it. - Team4Technologies (talk) 12:31, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photograph[edit]

Does anyone have a more recent photo to use? Something taken rather more recently 23 years ago, which the current one is dated. Niki2006 (talk) 18:05, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking the same thing, it is a bit old...but it is still a pretty good picture. Surely someone must have been able to take a pic of him from the audience in NMTB or something, or how about that guy in the front row of RH's latest DVD who said he was taking a pic with his phone camera, can't he send it in for us? :-)

I have bttern picturen of man who shaves stalk fromn growth. ryth em is bad but is try . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.179.136.237 (talk) 13:25, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Even if the current picture is replaced, I think that the picture used should be kept available just because it's a part of Rich Hall's history...although that's just personal opinion, of course 78.86.230.62 (talk) 23:48, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

California Stars[edit]

Another 90 minute documentary, "Rich Hall's California Stars", was shown on July 20 2014 on BBC4 (repeated on the 23rd if you're quick). Perhaps someone with a better grasp of WikiSCIENCE than me could update the article... Mr Larrington (talk) 00:35, 22 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Writer for The David Letterman Show.[edit]

The morning show. I vaguely remember him appearing on the morning show doing a skit where he acted out a weather report about a tornado using small plastic animals and buildings. Dr. Morbius (talk) 02:38, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He had a regular bit, filing reports from "Pitkinville", which was allegedly a small Montana town. Hall would stand backstage and detail some event happening in Pitkinville while manipulating little toy cars and/or people around the little plastic buildings and plastic grass of the town. It was memorably strange. Everyone But You (talk) 20:52, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
