Article is not neutral - does not discuss the corruption issues frequently reported in Australian media[edit]

Has anyone else noticed the OPI wiki reads like a official press release from the OPI themselves? There is no negative comment about the OPI (as of writing), despite the huge history of complaints and numerous news stories regarding corruption, cover-ups and human rights abuses by Victorian police which discuss the OPI as ineffective and subject to influence by Victoria police. If you type in 'OPI' to google news you get an accurate description of the issues within the OPI: a page full of negative stories. Why are none of the issues discussed here? Reading this page without any prior knowledge of the OPI would make you think that they are clean sailing with a perfect record.

Here's a small sample of articles from reputable sources to help get you started if you want to help contribute to this page and give it a better representation of the OPI: (feel free to add your own links, they are easy to find, just type OPI into google / google news)

- Also, there is a good legal resource and helpful discussion to be found here: http://www.communitylaw.org.au/flemingtonkensington/cb_pages/images/Independent%20Investigations%20Letter.pdf

There is an entire chapter dedicated to the human rights, corruption etc issues in the victoria police and the OPI here: http://www.communitylaw.org.au/flemingtonkensington/cb_pages/images/An%20effective%20System%20for%20Investigating%20Complaints%20Against%20Police.pdf

The above link discusses the issues at length and is a great resource, here's a sample:

"Under the current model, the Director’s object of ensuring Victoria Police have regard to human rights, receives lip-service rather than any on-going investigative commitment. For example 3% of complaints made by the public are investigated by the OPI. The pattern of ignoring human rights abuses while concentrating on a narrow definition of corruption is evident across police integrity commissions in Australia. Investigation of human rights abuses are routinely dismissed and deprioritised. The institutional denial of violence forms part of an “authoritarian consensus” across accountability structures and police agencies. Violence against those defined as criminal or deviant is trivialised, while procedural irregularities gain attention."

The Victoria Police page discusses corruption at length. I see no reason why this should not be the case on the OPI page also, given the history of the organisation.

You might want to act quickly as it seems obvious OPI members themselves are keeping this page nice and clean. Help from other wikipedia users who know more about how to edit pages than I do would be appreciated. I'll be watching this page and checking back daily to ensure my own legitimate work in expanding this page is not deleted. Wikiiuser87324987234 (talk) 17:51, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
