"Ko Nichi?" Or "Ko Jitsu?"[edit]

The second external link[1], as well as a number of Google results, states the phrase as "Nichi nichi kore ko jitsu." (Or "koujitsu," but I'm assuming this is a matter of transliteration.) There aren't many results for either, so it's difficult to gauge the veracity through that. I'd like to request a confirmation of the phrase. If there are variants, it would help to include them all. Recnilgiarc 20:16, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to my dictionary, 好日 is read as こうじつ (koujitsu), however there are more Google hits for にちにちこれこうにち than for にちにちこれこうじつ - perhaps because it's a proverb.
Anyway ko nichi is clearly wrong, it is kōnichi in one word and with a long o. --08-15 09:27, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
×こうにち(kōnichi)→○こうじつ(kōjitsu)ですね。一つの句の内でも同じ漢字の読み方が異なることはありえます。日本語話者の私が言うからには間違いない。移動を勧めます。

Should we find another external link?[edit]

The aforementioned external link [2] links to not only a scroll with the phrase written, but is also a store which make the scroll available to purchase. Shouldn't we find an image of the scroll not in the context of a scroll? The specific issue I have is that this in a way grants advertising arbitrarily since I don't think this is the only site where such a scroll is available. Good point. I've replaced the link with my own photo of said scroll. kencf0618 (talk) 03:09, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Buddhism portal / Series[edit]

Hi I'm new to this and added some details to the page. I also tried to add it to the Buddhism portal or the series but couldn't figure out how to do it. Anybody thinks this would be useful? just for it not to be so isolated from the rest...--Moira perez (talk) 20:47, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 21 October 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: No consensus. This was a particularly difficult close. As it stands, it seems that there's currently no consensus about what the article should be renamed to. No prejudice against a future move request, though. (non-admin closure) OhKayeSierra (talk) 02:32, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nichi nichi kore kōnichiNichi nichi kore kōjitsu – A more widely accepted reading. SpringProof (talk) 06:10, 21 October 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. OhKayeSierra (talk) 02:18, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am NOT a native speaker of English language. I am Japanese, and I do not know if there is exact way to pronounce this phrase in English. If you read some Japanese, please refer to ja:日日是好日#読み. It roughly explains some variants in pronunciation in Japanese. This phrase (日日是好日) would be read 1) Nichi nichi kore kōnichi formally by some Zen Buddhists, 2) Nichi nichi kore kōjitsu by some other Zen Buddhists, 3) Hibi kore kōjitsu in most cases of daily (non-religious) conversation, and also possibly 4) Hibi kore kōnichi or even 5) Hibi kore yokihi. It is English-speaking community of Wikipedia that decides which name is most proper, and I don't think I belong to the community. However, regardless of User:SpringProof's claim, "A more widely accepted reading" in Japanese is Hibi kore kōjitsu, and more authorized way of reading must be Nichi nichi kore kōnichi, that appears in 岩波仏教辞典 (Iwanami Bukkyo Jiten, lit.trans. "Iwanami Buddhism dictionary"). When User:SpringProof means that Nichi nichi kore kōjitsu is "A more widely accepted reading" in English (NOT in Japanese), some references should be presented to support such claim.--山田晴通 (talk) 11:37, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I apologize for not referencing anything for my claim—I wasn't expecting anybody to respond! It's entirely okay if you don't know if you belong to the English Wikipedia, I believe this is an entirely different matter as it relates to another language. I originally had the idea of changing the name from the movie 日日是好日.[1] I'm not sure how many English speakers are interested in Zen Buddhist sayings in Japanese, but I would guess that there are many people interested in that movie and the book that inspired it.[2] Also changing the transliteration to correspond to the Japanese Wikipedia's first pronunciation might be beneficial.[3] I do agree that keeping the name Nichi nichi kore kōnichi based on the Buddhism dictionary would be well reasoned, but adding some kind of redirect from "... kōjitsu" would be necessary, although I do not know how to facilitate that. Thank you, User:山田晴通, for your well-referenced comment! SpringProof (talk) 21:45, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Don't mention your apology. It's my pleasure, and you are most welcome.--山田晴通 (talk) 22:32, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just to clarify, what is your stance, User:山田晴通, on this? I still have the opinion to move to Nichi nichi kore kōjitsu to correspond to the Japanese article's first pronunciation mentioned in the article. I understand that it wouldn't really matter in the long run as both readings are technically correct, but I still would like to hear your full and honest opinion to clear up a bit of confusion on my end. If there does end up to be a withdrawal at the end I can still just add a redirect to this article from "... kōjitsu". I will also add all of the versions in Japanese and the readings tomorrow and try to translate as much as I can from jp:日日是好日. 頑張りますが、my Japanese is so-so so if you can try to fill in the holes that would be great. :) SpringProof (talk) 07:06, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • As I have written above, I am not thinking thst I belong to English-speaking community of Wikipedia. All I am trying to do is to supply information about the corresponding article in Japanese Wikipedia. Let me repeat what I have already mentioned: "It is English-speaking community of Wikipedia that decides which name is most proper".
I would surely read through the English article when you provide improved version.--山田晴通 (talk) 12:06, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • I finished the update to as best I could. It was difficult as I am not entirely fluent and could not translate the interpretation and meaning parts of the article. I have another proposal, what about renaming it to Nichinichi kore kōnichi? It might be more logical to combine Nichi and Nichi as they are one word. And I believe that the best would be to keep Nichinichi kore kōnichi, but add a redirect from Nichinichi kore kōjitsu. Thanks for being such a help with this article. Could you translate the rest as best you can (with special attention on the Meaning and Intro parts of the article)? Added references would also be helpful. Thank you! :) SpringProof (talk) 22:30, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
