Merger proposal[edit]

An editor has proposed that this article be merged with Hiksar Niksar.

  • Weak oppose. This article is chiefly about the episcopal see. Its title should be changed to Neocaesarea (episcopal see). The German Wikipedia has a whole series of articles like this one, distinct from the articles on the towns. A not unreasonable choice. Esoglou (talk) 17:16, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge Esoglou, I certainly agree that an article about the episcopal see in general (both pre-schism as well as Orthodox -- as far as I know there was no Latin see there) would be better than one limited to the titular see. And of course if we have enough material on the episcopal see rather than the town, we should have a separate article about that. However, we currently have only seven sentences about the see in this article, the rest (the lead and the History section) being about the town. So I'd think it would be better to include the information on ecclesiastical history in the town, just as we include information on (say) the educational system and the road system of a town with the town itself until we have enough material that it is worth splitting. Shouldn't we be discussing the treatment of sees (titular and otherwise) in some central place?
As for the German Wikipedia's treatment of Catholic titular sees, listing all the holders of all titular sees is veering towards an indiscriminate collection of information. After all, we do not list all the vice-presidents of General Motors or all the police inspectors of Paris. --Macrakis (talk) 05:06, 22 December 2013 (UTC) Done[reply]
