move explained[edit]

The term 'magical stela' was misunderstood here as a proper noun. There are many magical steles; they are both physical inscribed slabs, and prescribed formulas in magic texts such as the Greek Magical Papyri that the practitioner was instructed to inscribe on a surface. 'Magical stele' should be a subsection of 'stele,' or its own article. (I corrected links to the article and redirects.) Cynwolfe (talk) 22:59, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Height[edit]

What does "a height of 35 12/16 inch" mean? 35,16 with plinth and 35,12 without it, or just a way of saying 35 3/4? – Alensha talk 21:11, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

>Probably that it varies between 12-16 inches depending on where you measure at the top, as it's curved. Not sure if it's with or without the plinth, but I assume with as it's also inscribed.122.106.234.88 (talk) 13:00, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An exhibition catalog, The Art of Medicine in Ancient Egypt, gives the dimensions as 835×335×144 mm (approximately 32⅞ inches high). Are the dimensions cited in this article wrong? (BTW, the catalog has excellent photos of the object and its inscriptions, along with a complete translation by James P. Allen.)
Also, why are entirely different objects used to illustrate this article? They would be appropriate for an article on cippus. (Note that the definition of cippus found at this link is quite different from that in the catalog I cited, viz., "a genre of Egyptian art known as cippi (singular cippus), which display an image of the infant Horus subduing dangerous animals". Apparently Egyptologists borrowed a Roman terminology for a new use. Guess there should be two articles, Cippus (Ancient Egypt) and Cippus (Roman Empire).)
