Hard to believe[edit]

Parts of the main article are hard to believe. Maundy could have found a water-logged grave-yard by driving around alone. Sources are needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.105.36.65 (talk) 12:59, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am paraphrasing information from some of the files at TNA: several are rather large (and some of the allegations 'are peculiar and would require more information to be mentioned here'). Jackiespeel (talk) 17:27, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What bothers me about this article is not the events/allegations described, which may or may not be true, but the widespread lack of citations. Many of the statements presumably come from Cook "Hawking Peerages" but none have citation links. Or are they from Andrew Cook's book (Cash for Honours: The True Life of Maundy Gregory (Stroud, Gloucestershire, UK: The History Press, 2008) ISBN-10: 0750947683/ISBN-13: 978-0750947688), which doesn't even get a mention?

Some statements seem odd, but may just be badly written, eg:

"He declared bankruptcy in 1933. After he was released...". He was declared bankrupt? After he was discharged from bankruptcy? released from prison?
"he lived under an assumed name made up of his third and fourth given names". What names were they? Only two (three, if Maundy is one) are given in the article. Davidships (talk) 17:21, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Death[edit]

I recall in about 1980 reading a biography of Gregory which states he died in a French hospital from effects of alcoholism. It is questionable he would have been allowed a supply of alcohol in an internment camp run by the Nazis and the book's comment was that deprivation of alcohol hastened his death. The account I am sure from memory names the place and the cemetery where he was subsequently buried (remains later placed in ossuary so no gravestone).Cloptonson (talk) 08:34, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deepene Hotel[edit]

Is this place, described in the article as the biggest brothel in England, the same place as Deepdene House and Gardens? That article states that it was a hotel at about the same time, but I can find no confirmatory evidence on the web.
