Needs a better introduction[edit]

I'm tempted to add a "Lack of Context" tag to this article. I think an introductory paragraph needs to be added to explain what this list is all about, as it is not immediately obvious. 23skidoo 03:21, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of unsourced tag[edit]

Editor Otto4711 has yesterday added the {{unsourced}} tag. I didn't create this list in the first place, but I have edited it. I think that the demand for sourcing is unreasonable. The only way in which the list as a whole could be sourced is if it was based on a similar published list. It isn't that, because it's based on wikipedia content, like a disambiguation page. Nobody demands sourcing for disambiguation pages, because they are simply lists of links within wikipedia. Structurally this is very similar. For each individual entry the appropriate sourcing is the statement within the article giving the origin of the book name, and mostly this is indeed present. If Otto4711 thinks the the whole list should be deleted, he should propose that explicitly (though I'd vote against), but asking for sourcing is asking the impossible. SamuelTheGhost (talk)

I agree, so I have been bold and have removed it. The point of sources is for the information inserted in Wikipedia to be verifiable, and each entry of this list is immediately verifiable: in a sense the column "Literary reference" is the, well, reference for the respective table row. Somebody added the tag back about a year ago and I support that change. For some books with titles referencing other literature, the connection may seem obvious, but it's not always. I can imagine there have been titles that might look like they were taken from literature but weren't. With that in mind, I added a column in the table for references that corroborate the claim that the title of a book in one column of the table actually is taken from the literature mentioned in the other column in the table. Anybody else is welcome to add citations in that column for rows in the table that are not yet cited. --Dugan Murphy (talk) 18:56, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

bias[edit]

It's too English-world centered--83.60.60.8 (talk) 11:26, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should we have a separate page for the Bible?[edit]

We already have one for Shakespeare and I think Bible quotation titles are probably up there in frequency with Shakespeare quotation titles. StrexcorpEmployee (talk) 14:03, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
