Kenya[edit]

Has a game of league ever been played in Kenya? There certainly hasn't been a national team ,so it is inaccurate to include this.--dan, dan and dan 03:46, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto Israel.--dan, dan and dan 06:48, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

International teams[edit]

I think that we are going to have to be a bit ruthless on this page. The person who has been adding nonsense nations aside, this is a list of international teams. It seems ludicrous to have links to teams that have never actually played a match. ie teams that don't exist. It is not enough for them to be mooted.

Thoughts?--dan, dan and dan 22:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No they haven't. Someone planned to start up rugby league but got nowhere and gave up and nothing became of it. There wasn't a single match played as far as I know.James Bowes 22:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the following additional teams after consulting the following official international rugby league websites. Some of these had previously been deleted (for some reason), even though some of them, including Sweden, and Nigeria, are paid up members of the Internatioal Rugby League Federation, which is simply wrong!

Check the countries out for yourself, if you don't believe they should be included: -

http://www.leagueunlimited.com/team.asp?ID=International (Very knowledgeable Australian website features bona fide Eastern European RL nations including Latvia, Tatarstan, Ukraine, missed out on the UK Hall Of Fame website)

http://www.rlif.org/members/ Official International Rugby League Federation Website (100% accurate database - recently added new international paid-up affiliate countries to its database, including American Samoa, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal, Sweden, Norway, and Tuvalu)

Jay

Jay, this page is a list of teams, not members of the RLIF. Some of these listed here are not international teams, despite having listed affiliate membership. I will remove those that are not teams. When some of these countries form a national team that plays a game, they can then be added.--dan, dan and dan 02:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think separate sections. Aside from the test playing nations the following play and have a domestic league England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland (listing them and GB seems strange but probably the best solution), Serbia, USA, Japan, West Indies (rugby league is only played in Jamaica but they play as the West Indies) and Lebanon. The following international teams have some domestic rugby league: Germany, Estonia, Morocco and Austria (possibly Czech Republic). The following have teams based in other countries: American Samoa, Niue, Italy, Greece, Malta, Tokelau and Portugal. The following are dormant/defunct national teams that have played: Georgia, Netherlands (these two have recently packed in I'll find sources if necessary), Canada, Argentina, Norfolk Island, Moldova, Singapore, New Caledonia (again recent I'll find a source if necessary), and I think Solomon Islands have stopped (Ukraine used to play but never played internationals). I'd list them in a separate section for historical purposes. Half the RLIF list don't have a single player in the country. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.36.121.168 (talk) 18:38, 5 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sorry the above was meJames Bowes 22:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tidied up, if anyone wants to challenge one of the positions (e.g. evidence a dormant nation still plays or that a nation has played before) or ask for evidence of the recently dormant teams I'll find it. I decided to include all national teams with some local players in one list regardless of if they just use local rugby union players once a year or if they had a full blown domestic league as I felt the distinction was unnecessary on a page purely about the national teams. I separated the nations based wholly overseas though as I felt this was needed for accuracy.James Bowes 11:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Dear anonymous tosser who has been vandalising this page,

Give it a rest.

Lions?[edit]

England are listed as a test nation, which is true. The nickname "Lions" applies to The British and Irish Lions team though; comprising England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Therefore, shouldn't some note of this be made? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.192.69.100 (talk) 01:11, 16 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Northern Ireland

There are teams based in Belfast, shouldn't the NI flag be included? The tricolour doesn't represent NI.

Confederations[edit]

What is this confederations nonsense? There is a RFEF, and nothing else. As for Test nations, they all represent themselves at the RLIF. There are no confederations.--dan, dan and dan 06:34, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in RLIF Rankings and Lebannon[edit]

Could someone please find out where American Samoa, Argentina, Austria, Cote D'Ivoire, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, New Caledonia, Norway and Tuvalu are now that the world rankings have changed. Also find out if Lebannon are a full member or a second tier member. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.204.204 (talk) 10:32, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

There is a long-standing (Feb 2016) proposal to merge List of men's national rugby league teams into here. I Oppose the merge on the grounds that it include many teams that are not affiliated with the Rugby League International Federation and is so poorly referenced (particularly for the debuts) that it would be better deleted than merged into a more easily-verified and tighter existing list.
