A gay man over the course of two years was repeatedly beaten by the family members of his boyfriend. He had two teeth knocked out and suffered a broken arm and a stab wound. He did not report the crimes to police because members of his boyfriend’s family were in the police force. He left Mongolia and was granted asylum in the USA.

A lesbian was held in jail without warrant and beaten repeatedly because her girlfriend’s policeman brother found out about their relationship. She had to flee to Ulaanbaatar from her original home in the countryside and was still pursued by the brother in Ulaanbaatar. She left Mongolia and was granted asylum in the USA.

A young lesbian woman was excluded from school after being found to be in a lesbian relationship. She and her girlfriend were violently assaulted and raped. She was also unable to find employment because of her sexual orientation. She was granted asylum in Australia. In August 2013, a gay man, who was beaten up, filed his complaint to the police, but it has been unclear as to what has been done on the case.

In September 2013, a gay man was attacked in the car. The driver shouted “Chinese homo”, beat him up and forced him into his car with the purpose of checking the balance of his bank card at ATM. The victim saw the police patrol car and jumped out of the car. He broke his leg while jumping out of the car in motion and the case is under investigation.

Legality of same-sex sexual acts

The Khalkha Mongols were indeed governed by the Qing government. However, the legal system used was not the Great Qing Legal Code（大清律例）, which applied to the governance of the Han Chinese. Instead, a separate set of laws known as the Mongolian Law and the Mongolian Legal Code（蒙古律/蒙古律例） was utilized. Therefore, applying provisions directly from the Great Qing Legal Code to the Mongolian Law is incorrect.

In addition, the anti-homosexuality law in the Great Qing Legal Code punished consensual male homosexual acts with a month in cangue, not a year in prison. Hermes Antinous (talk) 14:55, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
