For future editors, feel free to reorganize! I recognize it's kinda messy, but I couldn't think of a better way to organize it since I had to quickly throw this up! I'm curious to see what you do with it! Jevella (talk) 03:04, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jevella: Wow! What a lot of work you've put into this article. Great to see reliable sources about an interesting topic summarised and meticulously cited, in a way that tells a story- just what Wikipedia should be. I haven't strong opinions about the article structure. I think where it needs to be improved is in the writing style. You've used a lot of constructions that people use when speaking informally that don't normally appear in written English, especially not for an encyclopaedia. I've tried to fix the lead to bring it into Wikipedia house style, but more could be done with the rest of the article.
  • "or whatever." Though this is something people say, but we wouldn't normally put this in formal writing. This is what "et cetera" is for. "there was this" is again, something that happens in spoken but not written English. "Majorly" as in "majorly popular" is another piece of informal English.
  • "Random" has a specific meaning to do with the way something is selected. "Random" also has an informal meaning, but we shouldn't use a phrase like "random pieces of yofuku" unless we know that the things chosen are actually random.
  • "As such," You start sentences this way a great deal and it doesn't seem to do any work. I think it's fine just to cut out this phrase, but if you want to make a connection — that this thing happened in this way or because of this — you can use connecting words like "thus" or "hence".
  • Wikipedia house style avoids first-person language ("we don't see these often anymore..."). It also avoids instructions to the reader ("It should also be noted...")
  • These are just stylistic concerns, but one important thing that needs to be fixed: in the Women's fashion section, you have a single paragraph whose content is "During the Rok". I first thought this was supposed to be a heading, but maybe it's a paragraph whose text got cut out somehow?
Again, I've got to say that this is really impressive work for someone relatively new to Wikipedia. If you can get in the habit of writing more in the encyclopedic style, I think the articles you write will be high quality and last a very long time. @MartinPoulter: I noticed you working on the page a lot for the past few days, and I appreciate it! I definitely don't have a lot of experience on Wikipedia, so this is all good to learn/keep in mind for the future. I did go back and fix a few of the suggestions so far, "as such" removals and the usage of "or whatever else" that I found. I didn't find random when I searched the page, so maybe you already fixed it?
Oh, and the "During the rok" piece is fixed too now! Thanks for pointing that out! I tried to reorganize the Women's fashion section in a more chronological order, and it slipped past me during the editing. Jevella (talk) 04:02, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this is controversial, but a heads up that I'm gonna put a few redirects towards this article, as I can never remember whether it's 'Japanese clothing during the Meiji period' or 'Japanese fashion during the Meiji period'.
