Pinging people[edit]

TeavannaaBeshogurLambiam, feel free to improve if you like, especially if you have good Turkish sources. Seems like a guy who builds huge mosques all over the place should have an article, perhaps even in Turkish? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:49, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The only reason that the governing party of Turkey and its supporters give Hilmi Bey the opportunity to build these neo-Ottoman monstrosities, bypassing the standard practice of requests for tender, is that he is the darling of Turkey's authoritarian president, which is because he is aligned with Erdoğan's neo-Ottoman aspirations and predilections. This can, of course, not be written about in Turkey. I think there is a reason he has no article on the Turkish Wikipedia either: his being notorious is inherited notoriety of his creations.  --Lambiam 18:29, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You may be right, I learned he existed yesterday. I think I saw an article at tr-WP that had his name as a redlink. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:06, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is in the article tr:Tokyo Camii. Once upon a time there was a page tr:Muharrem Hilmi Şenalp, but it was deleted.  --Lambiam 22:12, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, though that was some time ago. IMO this article meets WP:ARCHITECT, though I'd like more in-depth coverage than the Rizvi-source per WP:GNG (it's a good source, though). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:37, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Does this [1] contain something we should add? I'm not trusting GT with it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:40, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The article feigns surprise that so many tenders in Erdoğan's latest glorification project were awarded to members of the same family, first Hilmi and his wife Feride, and then their son Hüdai Sırrı. Unless this becomes a huge public scandal – IMO unlikely because it is mild compared to so many other things – it does not appear to be encyclopedic material.  --Lambiam 18:31, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for all the questions, but does Mimar Sinan mosque have an article on tr-WP? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:02, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No. In Turkish that would be "Mimar Sinan Camii", possibly with a disambiguation like "(Ataşehir)" because there already are some mosques by that name, although none are particularly notable. It is a red link on tr:İstanbul'daki camiler listesi (List of mosques in Istanbul).  --Lambiam 18:31, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Limorina, Beshogur, other interested, i wonder if I may have your input.

Check my edit [2] and the edits leading up to it [3].

Top to bottom, the reinserted Sözcü source [4] is there to support "close friend".

On the Hurriyet source [5], I see no obvious wrong with using it, and in GT-translation it says "built the house of Prime Minister Erdoğan." Perhaps there's a en-WP or tr-WP article on this particular house? However, when I check the article sources for AP Headquarters, one is dead (I assume that's where I got it), and the others don't directly support it, Hurriyet says "carried out many architectural projects of both the AK Party and the Prime Minister directly." So, is this incorrect or can a better source for it be found?

Comments/help? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:24, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gråbergs Gråa Sång, firstly, I think he's the president, not the prime minister so the truth is that I'm pretty confused because 'Başbakan' means 'Prime Minister' and 'Başkan' means 'President,' this could possibly mean that the Hürriyet source is incorrect but I'm not sure because I use Hürriyet as a reliable source. Another thing, is this about tr:Cumhurbaşkanlığı Sarayı (Türkiye), Erdoğan's residence, or Presidential Complex? Limorina (talk) 11:55, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Limorina: he's the former prime minister tho. Old news. Beshogur (talk) 12:01, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Thanks Limorina. It's quite possible they're talking about a house built when he was prime minister, which may be none of the above. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:05, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
