First reign[edit]

The first reign of George Vth the Brilliant can only be some month in the years 1297/98 because coins of Vakhtang IIIrd are minted from 1298 to 1308 by the mint of Tbilisi. See Pakhomov and Kapanadze. In 1297 the brother of George, David VIIIth was dethroned by the Il-Khan, Ghazan and the grandfather of George, Beka Jakeli (1285-1308) brought him to Tbilisi (Nov 1297??)

Oppose No one is arguing that he was not called George the Brilliant but George V of Georgia is the more common form used in sources. Overall it is ill advice to use nicknames to denote monarchs of Georgia due to their obscurity to English audiences; the "of Georgia" tell us more about the person than the nickname that many might even get. Oppose The "X of Georgia" construct is more informative and descriptive. Furthermore, the Georgian nicknames can be rendered in English in various ways, creating confusion. ახალციხეში გიორგი ბრწყინვალეს ძეგლი გაიხსნა – A monument to Giorgi Brtskinvale was unveiled in Akhaltsikhe[edit]

A monument to George V the Magnificent was unveiled on Tamarashvili Street in Akhaltsikhe. The sculptor is Kakha Arunashvili. Akhaltsikhe Municipality has allocated 195,000 GEL for the monument. The monument is 7 meters long, of which 3.5 meters is a bronze monument. The mentioned information is spread by "South Gate".
