Gleaned information[edit]

Information gleaned from this source that requires reliable citations. I don't know if the cited sources would be considered reliable sources. But the information may be used to find good sources, if these don't qualify:

  • Named Ruth Esther Elisabeth Ellqvist,[1] she was the eighth child born to Carl Christenson Ellqvist and Johanna Nilsdotter,[2][3] who were married 4 October 1862.[4]
  • Her father was a school teacher and farmer.[5][6]
  • He gave up his teaching job in 1889 and the family moved to Stockholm.[7]
  • Before attending the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts, she attended a preparatory technical art school to develop the skills required to gain acceptance to the academy.[8][9]
  • Her brothers Oscar and Ernst, who became photographers, and sister Gerda, who taught needlework, also attended the technical school.[10]
  • She began attending the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in the fall of 1900.[10]
  • She was among the middle generation of artists (1890 to 1915),[11] who seemed to be between National Romanticism and Matisse School / Modernism.[12]
  • She studied at the academy until 1905.[13]

Good to go![edit]

I have looked at the pdf/dissertation mentioned in the previous sections. It is perfectly good to use as a ref in it self. It is completely referenced with inline citations from reliable sources. Most of the books mentioned are already used in John Bauer (illustrator) and some in are in reference to Carl Larsson. If info from this pdf is used before I get to it :) (use the basic cite journal and I'll fix it up) just use it for multiple refs, then ping me and I will substitute the one's I find in the books with book refs. — I am very used to find proper refs for Swedish articles written by others...<sigh> Best, w.carter-Talk 01:09, 3 September 2014 (UTC) (aka "Le Nettoyeur")[reply]

It's helpful to know that you think that the quality of the material is good - and that the sources used in the dissertation are good and you're familiar with them. That helps a lot.
Since it's a tertiary source and a bachelor's dissertation, the pdf itself is not considered a reliable source. There's another bit of a wrinkle: I wonder if "Nyström, Maria, C-uppsats, Ester Ellqvist, 1990, s. 2" is another woman's dissertation? Or perhaps a book. If it's a dissertation, we cannot use it. There also appears to be information from vital statistics, etc. databases, which are WP:Primary sources, another not so good route.
But where there are books that you're familiar with and know are reliable, that's great!
It was really tedious trying to use google translate to isolate content - and the translations only seemed to be clear about 40% of the time. If it wasn't really clear in the translation, I avoided it.
I seem I'm rambling a bit, but I'm very hopeful that there's some good information to be gleaned and that you feel confident in a number of the books that are referenced.--CaroleHenson (talk) 01:43, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@CaroleHenson: Hello!
Note to self: "Never write, edit or say anything when Self should be sleeping!"
This post in a nutshell: If you write something, I'll find the refs.
I totally get that the pdf itself cannot be a source. What was I thinking! What I probably meant to say was that since all the text in it is supported by books or another dissertation (which is also based on books) I'll hunt the refs down and add them. And if some website should not be up to par, I'll find another that is. :) As a last resort there is always the [citation needed]. Btw, never trust the SweWiki! I'll start sorting things out here when we are done with her husband. :) Best, w.carter-Talk 17:51, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@W.carter:Funny comment about note to self!
Based upon your comments, I changed the notes referred to the Swedish article to citation needed tags + removed the tag at the top of the page that said that article was a source of some of the article information.
Your approach / timing of next steps sounds good!--CaroleHenson (talk) 18:12, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
