Legal Controversy[edit]

There should be some mention of the legal controversies that the Holding Center is involved in. This is one of the reasons that the holding center is notable. There have been a large number of suicides, which seem to have triggered investigations by the Department of Justice, Civil Liberties division, and by some state agency or agencies. The county it is claimed plays all this "close to the vest"; that is, denies access to information, and as we all know, secrecy is poison to democracy. Here is an article by the NY Civil Liberties Union that could be a starting point for more information on this controversy.

Inmate capacity figure?[edit]

Right now, the capacity of the Erie County Holding Center is stated as 680 inmates. However, both The Appeal and the Erie County Sheriff's website (already linked as a source) state the facility's capacity as 638 inmates. Where does the 680 figure come from? If there is no source, then this figure should probably be corrected to 638. skoosh (háblame) 23:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
