Name of hotel[edit]

looks like there's some discrepancy between sources about whether this was the Buchanan Hotel or Buchanan's hotel. State Dept. transcript says "buchanan" and fansite says "buchanan's." given that the former is the more legit source, we're safe with the current article name now but I added a clarification to the article. --Vivisel (talk) 17:44, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that either the US State Department or the the US president was wrong. All of the other references, including the ten cent stamp issued by Australia Post, show the name as "Buchanan's". --AussieLegend (talk) 18:48, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree! Now how do we change it? (: --Vivisel (talk) 19:27, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely "Buchanan's Hotel". Signed: a long-term Townsville resident. The Exchange just up the road is it's twin boozery. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.244.239.158 (talk) 08:29, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

David Buchanan[edit]

This link mentions that the hotel was created for/by one David Buchanan. Have googled around a bit, having trouble tracking the fellow down. I bet an early 1900s book of notable australians (there are books like this for basically every country from this time period) would have him, but I can't track one down...any thoughts? --Vivisel (talk) 19:27, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1902 or 1903?[edit]

There are some discrepancies between sources about whether the hotel was built in '02 or '03. Perhaps it was started in 02 in completed in 03? If so I would like to reflect this in the article but we'd need to know more... --Vivisel (talk) 19:27, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prior hotel?[edit]

I promise this'll be the last section on this page I create today, but page 5 of this magazine claims there was a hotel on the site of Buchanan's prior to its construction. Since the magazine is sort of a trade journal I am not sure that it's super-reputable. I'd be open to just adding that fact to the piece but better still would be finding out what the hotel was! --Vivisel (talk) 19:40, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Status of building 1944-1982[edit]

Article as is implies that it was unused, but some of my explorations suggest that this isn't the case: LBJ definitely revisited in 66, and I don't think he revisited an empty building. in fact the image on this page (24 out of 81 in the slideshow on the top left shows a banner on the building welcoming LBJ. Also, the image here shows a bar that seems to be active called the "down under bar." articles mention it had a bar in it from the beginning. So the question is: what happened to this building after WWII and before it burned down? --Vivisel (talk) 23:25, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The motorcade stopped at the front, and I think he did go into the hotel. See photo at http://northqueenslandhistory.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/townsvilles-lost-treasures-no-2.html The pub was trading after the war, but I dont know how long for.203.221.157.18 (talk) 03:35, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
