Missing citations[edit]

Added templates due to this problem of lack of documentation of sources throughout. (Corrected a few of the problems so that one can see how to proceed with further revision, provision of required citations throughout. --NYScholar 21:43, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder whether anyone has a better reference for this Alan Bates quote, one of the last he made of any note: "People think it's better my side of the street, but it isn't really." It is probably from a short piece he appeared in, in an ITV Evening News "soft news" piece a few months before he died. Date of Death[edit]

The official memorial website (http://www.alanbates.com/) shows his date of death as 27 December. I am going to change the article accordingly.--ukexpat (talk) 22:31, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

no mention of Oliver's Travels[edit]

I noticed there is no mention of Bate's lead in Oliver's Travels which has a wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver%27s_Travels I leave it to someone more familiar with the format of such articles to add it.

Wife's Cause of Death[edit]

It's widely documented that he had a sexual relationship with Peter Wyngarde lasting 10 years, and with John Curry lasting 2 years until Curry's death from AIDS. See the refs in those articles. 217.155.20.163 (talk) 22:46, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is disputed whether Alan Bates and Peter Wyngarde were romantically involved because of claims made about the reliability of Donald Spoto's biography; the main source it appears for the assertion. I removed a direct mention from this article earlier today for this reason. Please keep a watch on the Wyngarde article to see if this issue is ever properly resolved. short story[edit]

Alan Bates won a ten-guinea prize for his short story 'No man's Land' published in Kolokon, Volume 1 No 3. Winter 1966. (At the time, Kolokon received financial assitance from the North Eastern Association for the Art). I can't give any citations for this - but I do possess a copy of the magazine! The Running Man[edit]

Alan Bates Knighthood in 2003 — Honorific prefix "Sir" belongs above name in infobox.[edit]

User Nford24 has reverted 2 edits thus far, based on the belief that the "Sir" belongs in front of the name rather than above. MOS:SIR states nothing against the prefix specifically, and there is not a clear statement regarding prefix usage on the infobox.

Per Atchom's talk page, as that user also removed it, I learned about an archived discussion. It was massive, but the conclusion yielded this applicable statement which actually SUPPORTS maintaining "Sir" or "Dame" above honorary damehoods/knighthoods for actors, singers, and other entertainment/arts types:

Editors should also take care not to impose an honorific title prefix inline on subjects who have received a title but which is not significantly referred to in general media when discussing that particular subject.

Alan Bates is someone who, in the last year of his life after being knighted, and in all subsequent years since his death, has always been referred to as Sir Alan Bates in articles and other forms of print, from film historians, journalists, and such. Such references on his article page can attest to that, but more can be exhumed if necessary.

Also, if consensus is needed to support this perspective, that is fine. I have reverted it back for now, as that's how it was for a lengthy period of time before any discussion took place on the talk page. And about that Wikipedia guideline I quoted, particularly the part in bold. Does anyone else agree (or disagree) that it applies to Alan Bates?
