Density[edit]

An article in European Physical Journal Plus, link to aritcle, apparently suggests the density is real, and due to elements with atmoic numbers like Z=165. Sounds pretty insane, and certqinly speculative, but might lead to a modification to this sentence from the article:

Such a high density is unphysical, so this mass and density estimate of Polyhymnia is considered unreliable by Carry in his study.

Of course, it remains true that the source cited said whart it said, but do we need to say "unphysical" (and what does that mean)? (talk) 11:29, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • The physics paper is referenced in October 19, 2023 USA Today. They say "Polyhymnia may be composed of superheavy elements previously unknown to humans. In other words, it contains elements not on the periodic table at all." ☆ Bri (talk) 23:04, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the buzz around editing the mass and density section of this article, the multiple news articles (USA Today, Phys.org, ScienceAlert, etc.) on the subject, it would be appropriate to list this publication in the reference section of the article and include a line or two discussing it. The minor planets mailing list which is now added was spurred by this article's existence, so it's really an oversight at this point. However, I know the authors (LaForge et. al.) personally so I'm unsure if it would be appropriate for me to make the edits. Any guidance from more experienced Wikipedians would be appreciated. - Andrew S. CosmologicalDefect (talk) 08:51, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
