Background section[edit]

After a short intro section, this article leaps right into the planning and personnel of the expedition. It really could use a "Background" section, possibly starting with the realization that Everest was the world's tallest, and a short run-through of the previous failed expeditions (Needn't detail them all, one imagines). --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 12:27, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

9th expedition?[edit]

"The 1953 British Mount Everest expedition was the ninth British mountaineering expedition to attempt the first ascent of Mount Everest". Was it really ninth expedition? As I understand, there were British expedition to M. Everest at 1921, 1922, 1924, 1933 and 1953: five expeditions in all. When other four expeditions were? What is source to prove this? No mention of Snowdonia in the preparation for this?[edit]

It is a fact that they used Snowdownia to prepare. Are there any presentable facts on this? There is no mention of this.
