The Parkview public library is situated on the corner of Athlone and Tyrone Avenue in Parkview, Johannesburg, South Africa. The library building, playground and parking area is located at the heart of the village of Parkview.[1] This public library is a community facility that is a popular destination for children and adults who read. The library had a wide range of fiction and non fiction books, a children’s section, reference resources, regular programming, computers and access to free Wi-Fi. [2] The library is well supported, this is evident in the numbers, there are more than 2500 active borrowers within this Region B library.[3]

Community[edit]

The Parkview community are well served. Apart from the public library, the suburb has its own police station, post office, schools (creches, primary and high schools), a golf course, and a number of religious buildings. [4] The suburb is also located nearby to the famous Zoo Lake and Joburg Zoo

This Library plays a vital role in print literacy and mobile literacy development among all who live or visit this suburb.[5] The organisation Friends of the Parkview Library raise money to purchase new books by holding raffles, with prizes donated by the local. They also hold book sales as another way of raising funds. The friends use the money raised to buy new, books and this keeps the library stock current.[4] The library and its community also work together to create programmes, fundraising, and facilities management.[6]
