@CNMall41 and S0091: I could really use your help here with the sourcing. There was this SPA Fatam50 (talk·contribs) who was all over this BLP.. They added a whopping 53 references. I've sorted out the duplicates and the obviously unreliable ones. They were even using tricky tactics with unreliable references. Now, most of the current references are either WP:ROTM or interviews. But here's the kicker. She got a ton of press attention in Gulf Times such as this, this and this. but all these articles were written by this one person, Kamran Rehmat. Smells fishy, doesn't it? Looks like paid work to me. I need your expertise to evaluate the coverage cited in the BLP before I decide whether to take it to AFD. —Saqib (talk I contribs) 13:20, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention, she clearly fails NSINGER, so we need to assess the BLP's WP:N based on GNG. —Saqib (talk I contribs) 13:23, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The image indicating "own work" while at a photo shoot shows a clear COI for sure. --CNMall41 (talk) 17:58, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
how dumb can one be. This isn't from a photo shoot but from an officially released music video. I think ulterior motives are driving the deletes here.
I don't have the energy to go through every reference. Sorry. Make your best judgment call based on guidelines. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:29, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I stumbled upon this page and am baffled that a contributor is making decisions on whim here. "a failed singer" is a judgement call. I sense ulterior motives in reporting this. 2400:ADC1:15C:AF00:1938:2725:DD9F:AF25 (talk) 20:02, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IP, in this 2014 Gulf Times article, it states one of her songs was on the "Billboard Hot" charts, which is quite vague as there a many Hot charts (and bad journalism). Some charts are meaningful for notability, at least for the song, but most are are not. Do you have any clue exactly which chart? Can you find it on Billboard? It might be helpful. S0091 (talk) 17:58, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib I think there needs to be a discussion at WP:RSN about Gulf Times. The only discussion that has occurred is this one waay back in 2007 and not helpful. While I am sure GT is WP:RS for some topics/situations, WP:CONTEXTMATTERS and these particular articles seem like promotional fluff pieces to me filled with puffery and a couple or so are in Community section. Take a look at other articles currently in that section. They mostly seem like press releases, run-of-the-mill and/or promo and most do not have by-lines. As for them being by the same author/publication, per WP:SGICOV Multiple publications from the same author or organization are usually regarded as a single source for the purposes of establishing notability so at most they count a one source. The other source I think that needs discussion is Images.Dawn as those are contributor contributions, see their guidelines. It might pass as WP:RS if there truly is editorial oversight but I don't think Images should count toward WP:GNG. I also find it odd Kazmi has only released 8 singles over the past ten years or so which suggests they are not a professional singer/musician or certainly one not backed by the industry in any substantial way. How does one make a living by releasing a single every year or two (or three)? ?? S0091 (talk) 17:51, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
S0091, So, I suppose it's safe to take it to AfD then. I'm not entirely sure about GT because I'm not too familiar with this publication. However, we definitely need to vet some Pakistani RS at RSN, including Dawn Images as well as Dawn's PRISM (a blog). On a related note, we really need to revise WP:NEWSORGINDIA. Would appreciate your input on that. —Saqib (talk I contribs) 18:14, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't say it's "safe" as AfD is a crap shoot but I don't think it is unreasonable to do so. You will have to convince others GT is not RS in this context as my WP search about GT suggests it is used for Keep rationales by experienced editors which is also why I think WP:RSN is needed. S0091 (talk) 18:24, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
S0091, You're absolutely correct. It can be quite challenging to persuade others, even those with experience, at AfD about the type of coverage needed to establish GNG. Unfortunately, it's often met with resistance. —Saqib (talk I contribs) 18:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
