At the age of 6, his family escaped to Israel through Turkey due to the Islamic revolution.[citation needed] He grew up in Holon, Israel, a suburb of Tel Aviv.[citation needed] In addition to his native Farsi, he learned both Hebrew and English.[citation needed]

Cohen-Kashi emigrated to the United Stats of America at the age of 17, and attended Oxford College of Emory University as a first-generation college student.[citation needed] He became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Oxford.[citation needed] He graduated from Emory University Magna Cum Laude in 1996.[3]

Medical career[edit]

Cohen-Kashi earned his medical degree from New York Medical College.[citation needed] He completed his General Surgery residency at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, where he gained surgical experience in the fields of surgical oncology, surgical critical care, vascular, and trauma surgery.[citation needed] He then went on to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he obtained his training in aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery with additional subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery.[4] Cohen-Kashi was certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, was a member of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons and New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, and received an academic appointment with Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in Surgery.[5][6][7]
