Life[edit]

Born 1942 in Lebanon (village of Sarʻeen in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley) , his father died when he was young and was raised primarily by his mother and sisters.

Began to study theater at the Lebanese university in 1965 then left to complete a masters program in arts in film. Returned to Lebanon in 1947 and brought his influences acquired by the culture of revolution in Paris during the late 1960. He began working at the Palestinian cinema institute in 1975 under the Palestine Liberation Organization in Beirut where he made films “Tel al-Za‘atar" with Palestinian filmmaker Mustafa Abu Ali, and he filmed a documentary in Cuba about Third World liberation movements, "Hymn of Liberty".

He met his wife Mai Maseri there and they married in 1986 and founded Nour Productions. They have two daughters, Nour and Hana. By the time the Israeli invasion began in 1982, and after Maseri completed her schooling at SFU, they documented the lives of women and children in the dangerous era of war. The two focused their work in documentary to film the human struggles of living under occupation During this time he also had a radio program, co hosted with famed musician and playwright Ziad Rahbani, Baaʽdna tayyibeen, qul Allah! That discussed news, commentary, and satirical skits.

He died of Alzheimer's in 2017.
