"Amour plastique" (English: "Plastic Love") is the debut single by the French duo Videoclub. The song has a total of 238 million streams on Spotify as of December 2023, after it went viral on TikTok.

History[edit]

Matthieu Reynaud met Adèle Castillon in Nantes in 2018. He composed the music for "Amour plastique" while skipping sports classes. Reynaud sent Castillon a demo of the song to try to seduce her, asking her to sing over it to lyrics written by their friend Esteban Capron. Subsequently, the group becomes closer together and calls itself Videoclub, a name that Reynaud had already imagined for his future group but which they sometimes justify because of a common passion for cinema. The duo records the song Amour Plastique in Reynaud's father's living room, while Julie, Reynaud's big sister, directs the music video for the song. Uploaded to YouTube in September 2018, the clip enjoyed rapid success, in part thanks to Castillon's existing notoriety on the video platform. The group's account reached 50,000 subscribers after a week, even before the publication of the video clip, which attracted the attention of YouTube. In September 2023, "Amour plastique" was used in videos which featured French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte saying "There is nothing we can do". The song went viral on the internet and especially on TikTok.

Music video[edit]
