During the 2004-05 English football season, Barnsley competed in League One, their 3rd consecutive season in the 3rd tier of English football.
Season summary[edit]
Overall, it was a poor season for Barnsley, who never really showed any consistency as they finished 13th and never looked like making the play-offs. They didn't have a great start to the season, winning just 1 of their first 8 games, and after a bad run of form mid-season, Paul Hart was sacked with the club in 17th and Andy Ritchie was brought in for the rest of the season to steer the club away from any relegation fears. Michael Chopra was the club's main source of goals, netting 17 across the league campaign, with Michael Boulding also chipping in with 10. The cup competitions were also disappointing, as they were knocked out in the first round of the FA Cup by League Two side Northampton Town, thrashed 7-0 by Premier League Manchester City in the second round of the League Cup and thumped 5-0 by fellow League One side Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.
