The Azerbaijan Technological University (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Texnologiya Universiteti)[1] recognizes the importance of working with other international organizations to achieve a sustainable future and, therefore employs an array of methods to meet its strategic goals. Additionally, developing an environment that is conducive to collaboration, teamwork, respect and produces high-quality outcomes, promotes capacity building as key as well development is done to support sustainability.

Azerbaijan Technological University was established on the initiative of the National Leader Нaydar Aliyev based on the Kirovabad branch of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute named after Ch. Ildirim through adjoining the Baku branch of the Krasnodar Polytechnic Institute and “Technology of winemaking” specialization of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the USSR №202 dated 22.02.1979 according to the edict №206 issued on 10.07.1980 by the Council of Ministers of the AZ SSR.

Azerbaijan Technological University was founded in compliance with the execution of the Decree of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic dated 13.06.2000 on "Improvement of the Education System in the Republic of Azerbaijan" via expanding the branches of the Azerbaijan Technological Institute by Order No. 691 of the Minister of Education of the Azerbaijan Republic dated 11.07.2000.

Currently, the university has 4 faculties, 14 departments, master's and doctoral departments, a research center, a preparatory course, an English language resource center, teaching laboratories for faculties, a library, an innovation center, and a gym (area 1000 sq.m.). The university has a student dormitory and is currently undergoing renovations.

Specialist training in technical and technological as well as economics and management specialties and scientific-research works are conducted in ATU.

"Heydar Aliyev School" is operating in the university to study the activities of our national leader Heydar Aliyev and state policy more deeply on a scientific basis. At the same time, a museum reflecting the history of the university was created.

By the order of the Minister of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 25.07.2022, the position of rector of the Azerbaijan Technological University was entrusted to Yashar Omarov.[2]
