I don't doubt that the original description of this image is Communist propaganda (the description of the German troops as "fascist" instead of "Nazi", if anything, kind of gives it away), but what then is Communist propaganda doing in the German Federal Archives? 83.226.206.82 (talk) 01:16, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Had the picture been filed in the DDR, then it being Communist propaganda would have made perfect sense. But on another note--My goodness, what an incredibly haunting image! Has it been nominated for featured picture status? Rudy Breteler (talk) 05:16, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Indeed. Makes me wonder who this man was, the German soldier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.249.249.5 (talk) 12:22, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've seen this picture before, except the bloodied man in the foreground was described as a member of the Shtrafbat, Soviet Penal Battalion (suicide squads). They were guarded by fellow Soviets (SMERSH operatives) who, themselves, did not participate in combat. Instead they stayed behind to shoot the Shtrafbat if they ran. The Soviet in the background of the photo is a SMERSH operative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.191.176.74 (talk) 04:36, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
        • Well whatever it is, the Soviet soldier in the background is incredibly handsome.68.145.208.174 (talk) 03:42, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
