tersupply is drawn from twenty-two artesian wells sunk to a depthof 130 feet below the surface, conducted to an underground re-ceiving reservoir and from there forced through the mains sup-plying the city. By this method the water is not exposed for aninstant in its long journey from the wells to the consumer, andbecause of these conditions there can be no contamination of thecity water of Tampa. Repeated chemical analyses have shownthe water to be especially pure, healthful and free of bacteria, orother injurious substances. Based on the rate Tampa now useswater,—4,500,000 gallons daily,—the maximum capacity of thepresent pumping plant and equipment of the Tampa WaterworksCo., estimated at 6,000,000,000 gallons yearly, will supply a cityof 200,000 population.
