English: Scenă din războiul ruso–japones [sic] ("A Scene of the Russo–Japanese War"). Aleksey Kuropatkin watching his troops routed, and "wishing he had help from those Romanian curcani of '77" (Vorel's patriotic reference to the soldiers fighting in the Russo–Turkish war of 1877–1878, sometimes known as curcani, or "turkeys").
